Chibnall was a terrible choice, every episode he wrote was god awful and bland prior to taking over and then decided to rewrite the cannon completely.

Yep, the writing was on the wall before he even took over. Moffat had wrote The Empty Child, Blink, and Silence in the Library when he took the reigns. Chibnall had wrote Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. I know the BBC wouldn't give the show to someone who hadn't show-ran before, but it was sad to see Jamie Mathieson not even get a shot at writing a single Whittaker script after penning so many gems for Capaldi. He was the closest thing to a "Moffat" figure that the Moffat era had - i.e. an auteur who came in every season and knocked up another classic for fun.

Stopped watching the reboot a few years ago when they introduced the flying Dalek, then, the Daleks seemed to be in nearly every show. Watched the first of each new doctor's episode, but haven't made it to the end of a couple of those first episodes.
All a bit too childish for me now. But, I am an old git.

The flying dalek had to happen. For years Dr who has operated on the premise that they were the most malevolent species in the universe - a sort of Borg equivalent, but we all knew they couldn't even invade your house unless you had a bungalow with a drop kerb and wheelchair access. This is fine for first generation fans as they will all now be of an age where they are living in these sort of properties, but modern kids just laugh.

It's not just the flight issue though is it? All the main drive components are prone to wear and maintenance - access depends upon either lying it down or having some sort of inspection pit / ramps. They have no arms and can't bend over so self-help not an option, and Davros has his own mobility issues so can't be expected to maintain the whole fleet.

There was one horrible effect like that back then.

Someone said they were over-used - that was my impression too, too many daleks and cybermen robbed them of their value.

You may well be right - McCoy was probably the Doctor most responsible for my waning interest, I'm afraid.

Not necessarily his fault but the programme was well past its sell by date at that time, as now in my opinion, although I stopped watching after Capaldi, and only watched him because I like him, but the stories and that guitar/sunglasses stuff were cringey in his time.

McCoys stories were getting darker and psychological than sci fi. Andrew Cartmel wanted to take the show back to scaring kids and the original regeneration planned for the 7th Doctor would have been one of the iconic show moments.

Capaldi was a great doctor. Let down by Moffats hard on for Jenna Coleman.
