Does the offside rule need changing?

Marco Van Basten wants offside to be scrapped altogether and says football could benefit in a similar way to hockey

I agree with pretty much everything he says. He also talks about time wasting on throw ins, injuries etc when the time isn’t added on. Seems switched in to a lot of fans’ frustrations with the game.

I never got the change to the T-shirt line, it doesn't matter where the line is drawn, it's still the same margins. The same will apply to Wengers option of daylight. I think it will be easier if the lines are drawn on the players feet only, the part of the body that would create any advantage at getting to the ball or situation the quickest
This is the correct answer!

Apparently City fans get more VFM as in our games according to an article I read a couple of weeks ago because the ball is in play for around 60 minutes as opposed to to only 58 minutes for the next nearest team. I'll reiterate what I've presviously said about off side though:

"All aspects of the game require the ball to have completely crossed the line to be considered a goal or out of play. Why is offside any different? The attacker should be completely beyond the final defender, not offside because a toenail is the wrong side. It's actually a really easy change for FIFA to make and could be brought in very quickly.

The gaining an advantage part is really important though as no-one could seriously argue that an advantage is being gained by a toenail, or even more bizarrely a heel, as a player is heading towards his own goal being beyond a defender who may be up to 60 yards away. At least daylight gives some credence to gaining an advantage.

the offside rule was the talk of football its biggest debate ? we have had changes before and its still a nightmare
i don't really know how offside can change for the better other than to get rid completely or have a offside zone

but i will say modern day striker/forwards should not be getting caught offside with defenders lines so well drilled
if you have the speed then you learn to give yourself a better gap to run off or if your clever you use the defender with a little knock then go

so until offside is took out of football it will be talk of the town every week ? nobody can say for 100% VAR gets it right because technology is not good enough and its main focus is on the player and not really the ball leaving the foot

Thinking about it yesterday after those tight decisions, would you change it and if so what would you suggest?

For me it needs changing to be implemented easier in line with the use of VAR.

I've seen 2 solid suggestions so far:
- offside is judged based on the feet only.
- daylight rule - if any part of the attacker is level with the defender he is onside. If it's tight i.e. the attacker is beyond or looks beyond the defender then he is offside.

If VAR is here to stay then the offside law has to change.
No, it needs applied correctly as it is with a measure of common sense when it comes to extremely tight calls on VAR.

What p*sse me off about rule changes is when it gets done mid-season, when other teams have profited or suffered as a result of the previous rule. It means the competition is not a level playing field for all teams, and therefor unfair.

Forward planning - you're not asking for much from the twats who control such matters are you Trev ?

New Rules:

All City goals to be ruled out for offside in the PL from next season. For balance Rags will not have any goals ruled out.

Time was always added on if the Rags needed a goal. Just how many games did Riley 'n Webb do at The Swamp. It's as clear as day that refs aren't applying the LotG impartially. No matter how many times the laws are changed or 'improved' the refs will always look after themselves and be 'protected' from explanation!
