Does the offside rule need changing?

In rugby league, both feet of the other attackers have to be behind the ball when the kick forward is made. If the body, arms and head are in front of the ball it doesn’t matter.

So by that standard, in football, just the feet need to be behind the offside line.

Do away with offside altogether .
If a player wants to goal hang for 90 minutes let him.
This offside VAR nonsense is killing the game imo.
I wouldn’t be suprised to see a seatbelt on my seat next Sat ffs.
Then we can all just sit and applaud a VAR decision .
It will be like Tennis soon enough!
New balls please.

But do they use VAR or do they still trust the Linos?

The problem with those calls yesterday was that, whatever part of the body you choose, it still comes down to the whether they have actually caught the exact moment the ball is played and how accurately the virtual lines are being drawn. There's fair margin for error in those two major factors, so when it's that close that one virtual line is touching the other virtual line, then surely that doesn't count as "clear and obvious".

If it's taking beyond, say 15-20 seconds to see whether it's actually onside or not, then just go with the call on the field and get on with the game FFS. Leaving the ref holding his ear in the centre circle makes him and the system look stupid and is ruining the flow of the game.

VAR is, should be, an "Assistant" to the refereeing team on the field, letting them know when they've made a "clear and obvious" error, not to make close calls for them. If it's that close that you can't decide quickly, then forget it. Put a timer on it from the moment of the incident, after that the statute of limitations comes in.

I think VAR should only be used for penalties and red card decisions.

Don’t think it should be used for goals, there are far too many little things that can be called incorrectly for a goal.

I like if any part of the legs or body of the attacker is level, then they are onside. Thats the closest you can get to 'there needs to be daylight between attacker and defender for it to be offside. Disallowing beautiful goals because of a cm here or there is just ludicrous.

Yes , as long as shitty goals get ruled out.
