Does Yaya still have a role?

I was told numerous times last season that the team couldn't function, couldn't retain possession, had no one to link our defence to our attack and would be far worse without Yaya Toure. Yesterday we had 10 players in the starting line-up who were available last season (John Stones being the only exception) and yet we managed to do all of the above and more. We outrun, outfought and outplayed a very good Stoke team in difficult conditions and we played as a team without Yaya's ego dominating, distracting and weakening the team on and off the pitch. We were accommodating him last year, well we have been for the last 2/3 years really and Pep will prove as he always has done that the team comes before any player.

My hatred towards Yaya comes from his off the field behaviour but many were claiming that was clouding my judgement about his on pitch contribution, hopefully now people will we see it wasn't and that we're a far better team without him.
Very much agree with most....apart from the word hatred.

He's a greedy ego maniac, however good a player he HAS been I've little or no respect for him and his agent, he's a bad apple who's going to do his best Winston Bogarde impression for the rest of the season as despite his tens of millions he'd sooner sit on his arse than take a pay cut for playing time with another club.

Today's departures could only get better if Yaya left for somewhere else - we'd have well and truly cut the proverbial fat from the squad then.

Yaya will be left out of the CL squad am i right? Hasn't gotten into the PL match day squads either so far. And that's with Gundogan out. Yet....he is still staying. Clearly not interested in playing anymore.

This is the one bad apple that City hv to live with. Tells u again that the transfer window belongs to the player, not the Club, or the coach. If a player wants to go, he WILL leave. Similarly, if he wants to stay put, he WILL. Nothing a manager or club mgmt can do, as often the club has more to lose, and a contract to contend with. Luckily, we hv enough resources to absorb his wage bill for one more year. I expect him to play 5-10 games at most this year - a classic money leach if ever there was one! There are ppl who still like to claim Pep sold Yaya at Barca against his wishes. Not at all. It is true Busi was more intelligent and suited to Pep's game than Yaya. But Yaya was swayed by the big money (in this case, sorry to say, our money), so he left, rather than stay and fight for a spot at Barcelona. ok - we got to see yaya's talent flourish here and I will always consider him an elite talent. However, the bigger picture i wanted to point out in both instances, it was the player's whim and yaya is the last person to think for the good of the squad or club. I have not even spoken about his godfather, best friend, agent yet!! Lets not even go there.

Such players tell u why one should be skeptical of according legend status at a club, coz many a times, the motivation the player has, has nothing to do with affinity for the club, fans or club's spirit!

Wondering wether Yaya,s agent is trying to pull a fast one here. He can go for free next summer so sit tight until the end of the window and try to get his contract torn up by City. then he can go for a free in September with a big signing on payday, there is no window for players out of contract

His wages have made him survive the chop.

Nobody will want to pay him that amount for him to stroll around for 90 mind.

Very sad to see yaya in this situation, he was in my opinion the most influential player of the past 10 years and without him we would not of achieved what we have, so to see him as half the player he was is sad, I hope it all ends well for city and yaya.

Even at the start of the summer there were plenty on here thinking we would get a significant fee for Yaya and saying we mustn't let him go on a free. Fucking if only, literally couldn't give him away.

Glad the club isnt paying his contract up..Hope he's never around the training ground or dressing room ever again..Think we can sustain his wages for another year while he becomes a spectator like the rest of us..A mercenary but one of the finest MFs ever.

I agree. He's done so much for us we could have literally given him away as a reward, it would also save around £1m a month outlay. Maybe they feel he still has something to offer, I certainly hope so.

We haven't given any way. We are actually paying clubs to take international players off our hands and play for them.

That's right we are paying other clubs to have international players play for them.

The precedent was set in previous years and all clubs in Europe know . It's going to be hard to move players off. I hope these compulsory buy clauses which some have talked about are watertight.

Anyway our signings all look bloody good this transfer window so can't be too critical.

thankfully he only has 1 yr left, his departure next summer alone will free up a lot of cash in wage bill for next summer signings.
