Dominic Cummings

Emily Maitless says she took the night off. Does anyone tell the truth nowadays?

Meanwhile Manchester is supposed to be having a communal sing song tonight. All Cummings fault.

Fair points but there is a stark difference between giving an appropriate amount of coverage to differ sides of arguments, as opposed to a policy decision to not cover one side at all, irrespective. It's not their job to decide what points of view are valid or not. It's their job to reflect what points of view exist in appropriate proportion.
It's interesting that you think that news is about showing different opinions about a topic. It's not. The job of a journalist is about finding out the truth. Once it's clear what that truth is, it's entirely valid to not have people who deny that proof for profit on their platform.

Anyway, we're getting off topic here.

So it now transpires that Cummings owns 50% of the farm he stayed at in Durham and that his company (Klute Limited number 07472305) is registered to that address.

The very same farm (co owned by Cummings , his parents and one other) have been claiming 20,000 euros per year in Eu farming subsidies .

So essentially he was travelling to his second home , (another point he failed to mention) in clear contravention of the law.
Did Boris also break the law by choosing his 2nd home to recover after CV treatment or is that different?

He only apologised because he was caught putting it on Twitter.
He quickly tried to delete it but it was picked up by Guido Fawkes.
Apparently his father was/is Donald Campbell.
You would've thought Alistair would have learnt he has to be quicker than the rest.

Campbell is currently editor or 2 publications.
One is some sort of mens mag.
The other is a pro European pamphlet I've heard of but never read.
He should be sacked from both or resign his position. Remember how one of the big Labour mantras under his guidance was equality.
Oh how the country misses him.
We are rudderless Alistair.
Help us .

you really should take this to the Alastair Campbell thread

As a simple example about the forest fires in Brazil, did you know that the amount of land burned by fire is steadily declining year on year? Or that the loss of Amazonian rainforests is not particularly high by historical standards? Or that the Amazon is not "the lungs of the planet" and does not output vast amounts of oxygen? I doubt it, because the BBC censors such facts, preferring instead to peddle propaganda in support of its climate change agenda.

You don't have to give equal coverage of all sides of all arguments. Climate change is real, end of. I don't need to hear cranks arguing otherwise any more than I need to hear people providing a counterpoint in favour of rape, in favour of paedophilia or in favour of racism on the news (though we do get a few of the latter).

As for Maitlis, she was correct. He did break the rules. She seems to be have castigated for pointing that out while he gets off scot free. Even though his wife likely had covid19, he decided he would leave her and return to his workplace. Looking at R rates and fatality rates, weeks down line at least one person is probably dead because of that decision.

It's pretty clear that the government's decision to back him has severely eroded public trust. As track and trace begins we need people to be compliant with contact tracing and isolate where necessary. We need them to download the app too. A lot of people are saying they won't do that now. Which is precisely what their behavioural scientists told them would happen and more people will die as a result.

This is quite a good explanation why Johnson and Cumming's importing US style culture wars won't work here. We don't have the same base of religious right and Libertarian fuckweasels to sustain it.

The Tories, in one guise or another, have spent a decade in government without knowing or understanding what it is they are governing, dismissing swathes of lower-profile public services as 'bureaucrats' or 'public sector waste'. Thus their response to the pandemic paid little attention to public health infrastructure, cut council leaders out of discussions, and treated care homes as a dumping ground to clear NHS beds for new covid inpatients - as we now see, with catastrophic results.

And why would a government led by a pampered faux-aristocrat advised by an angry cosplaying philosopher king with a family castle have any idea that care workers inhabit a world where they can't afford to take time off sick?

Do you have anything to back up that Maitlis didn't ask for the night off?
The presenter who replaced her said the same thing - that it was Maitlis' request.
