But it doesn’t change the fact there is no mandate to spend that much.

What are your thoughts on Iceland being in NATO yet have no military at all. 0% spending. Would you kick them out of NATO or be fine with Russia invading them?

Kick them out 100%. Pure dick waving by NATO and the West. If they were not needed/wanted in NATO during the cold war then it's hard to justify now. Putin and Russia are obviously pricks, but the western Scouse style 'always offended, never ashamed' morality re military expansion is bollocks.

They are very much needed. There is a submarine listening line that runs from Scotland to Iceland and then on to Greenland. It means that no Russian ship or submarine can enter the North Atlantic without us knowing about it. The population of Iceland is less than 400,000 so any military manpower or equipment would be tiny and not that useful. The listening system is far more valuable.

Edit: and that is before you even consider the strategic usefulness of Keflavik airport.

But, Iceland is of massive strategic importance which is why its in NATO with no military. if Iceland got invaded by Russia ( as an example ) and it basically creates a physical divide between US/Canada and Europe.

It is also a communications hub. so all fiber lines gone etc. loads of data centers on Iceland too for cheap electricity and colder weather so not needing as much AC to cool the hardware down.
