Dortmund (H) - CL QF | Post-Match Thread

Always thought this was going to be the toughest leg and that we will beat them by 2 or 3 goals on their own midding.

Imo gundogan is not good enough unless he is played close to the box or even inside the box. As a midfielder he just does not have the legs. A slow Rodri-Gundo midfield is not what we need. Let him roam freely into the box, as he often solves the situation there very well, scoring a lot, making good decisions.

But we need to give someone to Rodri to work with who helps him to dominate midfield, Gundogan is not that guy imo especially in next few seasons.

Quick, technical CM with big engine.

Other than that the mental block we have when we get t this stage is sad dont know what we really need to shake it off. Hoped last years result beating Real Madrid home and away broke it for us but no because against Lyon we shit ourselves and lost to 8th team in French League.

to carry over the same mentality from PL is what we need, dominant play, making sure we put their defence to test, lot of self confidence, patience in our play and passing.

Instead of nervous feeling, lot of bad passes, fear in our defence, sometimes panic sets in etc.

Some of these clubs are not as strong we struggle against in CL than the ones we beat in PL often.
because this Dortmund lost some very mediocre clubs in Bundesliga so far this season or failed to to beat them. and take Bayern, Leipzig out of that list of course, no wonder they are struggling for top4 when their squad is easily 2nd or 3rd best next to Bayern, Leipzig.

Phew. Rode our luck.

Rodri looked knackered at half time (not surprising given his exploits over the break), give that man a well deserved rest gainst Leeds.

Foden has another few levels to go up, scarily.

Time for Raz to play himself back into the side, we miss his pace.

Thought we looked tired and played like we were afraid of counter. Foden would have been a 10 if he had finished his chances but at least he got a very important goal. Eddie will be disappointed not to have gotten a stronger hand to the goal.

pep will know we got away with more than we deserved today and still in driving seat. Need to score first in Dortmund.

A guy 11/12 years his senior is a far better player in my opinion !! And in that second half he should have come on !!
Prime Fernandinho is untouchable, but been a bit of a mixed bag this season imo. Was amazing Saturday but plenty of times Ferna has started this season we have missed the things Rodri do well. If I was the manager next week I'd sacrifice Gundo and play Ferna and Rodders together

Why do teams who are bang average in their own league suddenly play like superstars against us... or is it our own uncertainty in this competition.

I think we will do them 2 0 next week but we are a lot of teams in Europe their cup final and we need to manage that the way we do in the PL.

Foden was unplayable tonight.. brilliant

Well Utd are bang average, yet they gave us a game and won.
Well done lads, it was a tough game , and I think we deserved it in the end

Kdb was the best today by miles, Foden fucked a lot of good situations today but at least in the end he scored the goal and we won, we have to improve on the last passes and taking advantage of the situations as well.
You need to look at his overall performance and take those blue tinted specs off.KDB was average tonight and the number of times he not only lost the ball but carelessly gave the ball away was ridiculous for a player of his ilk.
One pass to set up the winner doesn`t make him the MOTM.

Forgive me for not giving a fuck about the disallowed goal for Dortmund.

Bad decisions against us -

vs Monaco - Serge no pen /no red card when fouled when clean through.

vs Liverpool - Offside opening goal, wrongly ruled offside goal for Jesus, no pen for a foul on Sterling, wrongly ruled offside goal for Sane.

vs Spurs - Handball winner - Another replay not shown to the official showed the ball hit the scorers elbow.

vs Lyon - Laporte fouled in the build up to Lyon going ahead.
Try telling that to Jermane Jenus

Good result, Dortmund are a dangerous side and to expect them not to create with the players they have is quite frankly ridiculous. At the start of the game if you had said that we avoid defeat in Germany we would be through I would have been happy, plus I think we are generally a bit better away from home.
