Douglas Luiz

He definitely can play further forward. Scored some cracking long range goals for Vasco and can dribble and feint with either foot. Does the simple things well and moves the ball quickly and without unnecessary touches. Tommy Doyle will take an extra touch.

He is exactly the sort of DM we should be signing, Greater allround game than the archetypal marking specialist Brazil tend to produce (Fernando Reges, Felipe Melo).
Agree with that. I'm not sure we need another Rodri clone, but we need someone that can have a little bit of Rodri (dropping in between the central defenders, which he has shown he can do) and a little bit of Gundogan (dropping deep and keeping the ball moving).

In truth, was there anyone on their side last night that was anything more than average? Their manager admitted we schooled them, and the collective wisdom on their forum is that they have had their buckets and spades ready for weeks. At times, I think he’s been their youngest player this season, but I agree he needs to show greater consistency. Perhaps because he’s been around so long we have unrealistic expectations.

I agree that he doesn’t look the finished article, but with better tuition and teammates, I reckon he could yet flourish.

23 in a couple of weeks,so yes his technique and awareness has plenty of time to improve, but i just dont see he has the ability for it to be significant. He also lacks the athleticism i'd want in a player complimenting Rodri.

Do you want him to compliment Rodri or replace him when he's unavailable? I'm not sure why he would need to have the athleticism of Rodri if it were simply to compliment him. Like most Brazillian players, he has a strong core physique and a bit of devilment, so physically he should be strong enough. I do think that he has quite an odd running style, however, very short strides to cover the yards, so that can sometimes make him appear lackadaisical and slower than he actually is. He certainly doesn't have the height of Rodri but is only a centimeter shorter than Fernandinho, so I'm not sure if he could win aerial battles consistently. He does have it upstairs though, and that's increasingly the key attribute in our team.

At the price, I'd take the 'risk' on him for next season and see whether he fits.

i imagine thats what we will tell villa we will do if they dont play ball with grealish
Not sure I buy into that, if I'm reading you right mate, why would Villa give up their prize asset, their star player, just so they can have Luiz, I think they'd likely just say f"uck you", keep Grealish, and sign somebody else in place of Luiz.

Id like him to do both, when the need arises.

Rodri isn't particularly mobile,so i feel it's an area we need to prioritise in another defensive midfielder.Players like Bissouma and Ndidi just seem to have that bit extra, also Lavia potentially too.

Yes, I can see what you mean now, someone rangier with the potential to cover the ninety-five yards between the boxes. Those two are similar, but I gave up on us signing someone of that ilk when Ndombele went from Lyon to London- was sure he was what we needed. I just think Guardiola would rather defend by never giving the ball away in the first place, and Luiz would be quite adept at that.
We’ll probably still be quibbling over this when Lavia makes his first-team debut.

You are right,he is very good at the possession stuff and that is what we specialise in......so,i wouldnt be surprised to see him rock up here.

Its a huge shame Dinho is at the stage he is this year,as one more would have told us far more about Lavia, and potentially saved us 30/40 million.

His legs are going but I’ve said before that I’d offer him a one-year extension. He could help coach both Luiz and Lavia, and given the precarious situation in Brazil, I’d imagine he’d likely prefer to stay in England with his young family.
