Douglas Luiz

Maybe thats the reason why we are linked to Grealish? Doyle as back-up for rodri and Gundogan and ready to replace Gundogan in two years. Grealish will be the Silva replacement and Foden stays as a wide player for now.

Lavia, who is younger than Doyle breaks up play and does well with interceptions. However, he’s probably still far away from getting a look in. He knows how to turn out of trouble when pressured. Doyle is better as an 8. He can play as a 6 but I think it’d be a waste personally.

We can't force Luiz to sign for us and I reckon he might look at the Angelino situation and comments before deciding. He is playing for a good team, starting every week and probably isn't far away from a Brazil call up.

We realistically won't be signing him for 25m and selling him for much more in this current market. If we sign him it will be to keep him.

Think you'll find he's already played full internationals in the 2020-2021 season.

People readily dismiss him playing in a relatively average Aston Villa side, but I'd be more interested in seeing how far he could go. He only turns 23 next month and is already playing for the full Brazil side. Surround him with even better players and Guardiola's training, and he could become considerably better than he already is. He's already got two years of league experience so is physically more developed than Doyle, and I think he could play further forward as well.

We have a buyback clause so I’m not sure he has any say in the matter should we activate it?

Yeah I didn't mean for the first time, just to become more of a regular, especially with the world cup coming up.

The clause just means there is no negotiation with Villa.

He definitely can play further forward. Scored some cracking long range goals for Vasco and can dribble and feint with either foot. Does the simple things well and moves the ball quickly and without unnecessary touches. Tommy Doyle will take an extra touch.

He is exactly the sort of DM we should be signing, Greater allround game than the archetypal marking specialist Brazil tend to produce (Fernando Reges, Felipe Melo).

I'm even more convinced after watching him closely last night.

Very average.
In truth, was there anyone on their side last night that was anything more than average? Their manager admitted we schooled them, and the collective wisdom on their forum is that they have had their buckets and spades ready for weeks. At times, I think he’s been their youngest player this season, but I agree he needs to show greater consistency. Perhaps because he’s been around so long we have unrealistic expectations.

I agree that he doesn’t look the finished article, but with better tuition and teammates, I reckon he could yet flourish.
