Got to be fishing, no-one is that pretentious.

Brooklands Blue is that pretentious. He is the queen of the forum when it comes to pretentiousness and attention-seeking. However, the whole reason he posted that is that he knew someone would bite and suddenly a thread about boozing on your own, becomes a thread about Brookie and that's exactly what he wants.

And I do realise the irony that my explaination plays directly into his hands but it's only fair that you are warned about him, Loui.
Just ignore it rather than rope someone else into your little hate group.

There's no hate toward Brookie.

Nothing wrong with your own company mate in pubs or whatever, about 30 years ago i went thru a bad time with my first Mrs and we split for a couple of weeks so i arranged to go with my mate to Lloret-De-Mar (i know) but he dropped out so i thought fuck it i can handle 2 weeks on my own so went.
Absolutely brilliant time Lloret was shit so only stuck it out for 4 days and jumped on a bus to Barcelona and headed for the ferry port, first boat out was to Palma Majorca so jumped on that, ended up in Palma Nova for 7 days had a brilliant time even though i was on my own in a cheap apartment got in with loads of people from all over Europe, just used to get changed after a day by the pool and head out on my own to any bar and it didnt take long to get yakking with someone.
Just got the ferry back to Barca and then back to Lloret in time for my flight home, one of the best 14 days ever of my life, so dont worry about it mate

Couple of nice pubs near me, well all are apart form the J.D Wetherspoons so I think nothing of going for a couple on my own, quite enjoy sitting with my own thought enjoying a pint

As a City fan in Belfast, i've had years of it when watching a game in the pub...not as bad as it used to be :-)

You usually end up chatting to someone.

I was in Gran Canaria at the start of the season when we played chelsea in the Community Shield...went on my own, ended up rolling back to the hotel pissed after getting chatting to a few lads there

I love going to a beer garden for a couple if its a hot day.
Watching all the women passing by in their summery clothes keeps me busy.

I do it to watch some City games, most of my mates know jack shit about football and I don't wanna hear them talk shit to me, sit down with a pint and watch away in my own comfort.

I love some of the daft conversations you end up having in pubs.
I was in the Peveril Of The Peak after seeing PJ Harvey once, and some random bloke came up and started chatting.
He seemed ok, but looked slightly distracted.
After a while, he said 'I don't really know how to tell you this mate, but I know your sister, and she's a lesbian'.
I said 'I knew that already mate - she's my sister'.
He went quiet, and I could see his mind turning over through the alcohol.
Finally after an uncomfortable pause, he came out with 'I hope you don't mind me asking, but don't you ever want to watch?'
I said 'no, not really mate - mainly because she's my sister, but also because she looks like Peter Beardsley'.
After that exchange, I went to Corbieres, fell down the fucking steps and broke my wrist.
It was an eventful evening.
