Dynamo Kiev - Post Match Thread

Not picking Sterling made perfect sense if you take the time to actually think about it.

He's played 41 games - more than anyone else in the squad.

He was our only attacking midfielder fit at one point, he's had to play loads to pick up the slack from KDB, Silva, Nasri and Navas' injuries.

And now Navas and Silva have come back to fitness he can get a rest.

So it made perfect sense not picking Sterling or Nacho for the previous two league games aswell then, or not playing Mangala in to some sort of match fitness, Pony Bony on the bench over a young prolific goal scorer. Sterling has not played enough football, he gets the hook far too many times in games as it is-this fucking clown has no idea how to get the best out of him.

Silva back to fitness?

Ive thought about it and its still fucking baffling-when you have Clichy at full back there is nothing going forward on that side of the pitch-Sterling was made for that game last night-he's played his best football for us in this competition.

It was a job well done, very professional and disciplined, lets face it, if it was anyone else apart from city it would have been an accomplished performance after doing the damage in kiev. We get what a boring game, bring on the draw and the only British team in it.

Silva is anything but fit which is the main reason I wanted Sterling to start instead. He might have been involved in 41 games but he's hardly played the full 90 in every one.
It's all personal choice though I suppose.

OK well only 4 outfield players have played more minutes than him - Fernandinho, Otamendi, Yaya, Sagna. All of them forced to play too much because of injuries in their positions. Sagna got his well deserved rest yesterday, so did Raheem.

Raheem is also the one who needs to be protected from burning out a la Michael Owen. We didn't spend £44m on him so he could be crippled by 25.

None of us know the extent of Silva's injury or pain, he had a pretty good game yesterday and seemed to be moving freely enough to beat the Kiev defenders.

I just feel that he's been benched, subbed or not got game time at all enough this season and at his age he's got more in his tank. If he was playing every minute of every game I could understand. My biggest worry is the manager sapping the confidence from him.
He's another one in a long line of players who I'm looking forward to seeing next season.

As a means to an end the result was fine, but I thought we were in the entertainment business.

I defy anybody to say that match was entertaining it was truly dreadful.
It definitely wasn't entertaining although I could understand the cautious approach in the first half after the injuries. But to me it seemed clear by HT that Kiev didn't have a shred of self-belief that they could turn the tie around and I felt we could have been a bit more positive in the 2nd half.

Oh Fuck off, I didn't say Pellegrini's selection was perfect did I? I said it made sense to rest Sterling, which it did. He hasn't played enough? He's played more than nearly everyone else in the team - so that's just complete bollocks.

Personally I think it's amazing that we're into the q/f of the champions league, and could advance further as long as we avoid Barca and Bayern, and yet for most people the season is already over. Personally i'm buzzing for the draw Friday.

Exactly. We did what what needed last night and yet not only do the armchair brigade slate the team but anyone who disagrees with them.

Losing Vinnie again after five minutes must have hit the team in the balls just as it did the fans at the ground. Then to lose the other centre half a few minutes later made it worse because with seventy minutes to go. any manager would have had problems because he only had one sub left to change things around and with our injury jinx we might have been down to 10 men.

I wonder if the national press will have noticed that we will most likely be the only English name in the draw when Friday comes? It seems very pale Blues need to be reminded.

This place is getting more and more toxic, anyone would think we are fighting relegation.

luckily supporting City is a lot more pleasurable than reading bile from the usual misery arses on here.

sort yer heads out

For what it's worth, I thought there was little to be "negative" about last night. Just did what we needed to and Kiev were very obliging in that regard. Hence dull game.

Really odd and poor match, like being at a friendly not a Champions League last 16 match. Kiev barely tried to get back in the tie which I felt set the tone of us strolling it, although TBF it is getting increasingly difficult to tell the difference between when we are strolling games or trying to win them. When Kompany went off my immediate thought was that a top 4 finish quite probably went with him. But on the positive side, at least Wilf got a rest and should be nice and fresh when he starts the big one on Sunday.
