You can look at it this way too:

Let's say we beat the rags on saturday, and go on to win the Cup.

That'd make Dzeko already worth the money spent as his goal @Notts kept our assess in the Cup in the first place, and allowed us TO EVEN PLAY ON SATURDAY!

Agreed?

You could say that but actually Jo was standing behind Dzeko for that goal, If Dzeko wasnt there Jo wold have scored it. I'm not saying that makes Jo good, far from it actually.

Dzeko has the right attitude without the ability.
Balotelli has the ability but the wrong attitude.
Things would be easier if we could put the 2 strikers together.

No - I was talking about the away goal when we were LOSING 1:0 to Notts (on nice cross by Richards)

Re: for all dzeko haters....

Don't matter if you hate him or not right now....what choice have we got for Saturday?

Would you trust Balotelli in this type of game? too much of a risk and you can't play both of them together...last night proved that.

So we have to go with him and use the right tactics at least and get some crosses in.

Keep him up front and central and push Silva on to play off him, AJ on the wing with strict instructions to cross and not go for the Hollywood ball or goal....to be honest what other choice do we have....oh for the days when it was thought we had too many strikers!!!

Re: for all dzeko haters....

I was called a wanker last night in the stands for saying that I didn't rate Dzeko. He cant trap the ball, he cant hold it up, he fails to use his size, and his positioning is bad also. I really want him to do well, and I agree he isn't being given enough service from the flanks, but he has shown none of the qualities we have been told he possesses, not even in flashes. I hope I'm wrong but I dont see him being a hit here.

Re: Dzeko

He didnt have any service last night Johnson was trying to take on 2 or 3 rather than get early balls over and Kolarov was forever passing back rather than swinging crosses over .
However dzeko strikes me as either very lethargic or short of confidence and looks no better than some of the dross strikers I have seen us waste money on ( Badbuy,Taylor Sam Harris)

Im sure we will all forgive him if he bags the winner on Saturday.

Re: Dzeko

he hasnt had any service since he cme but he's not even doing the basics, not contesting with the opposition centre halfs in the air, not winning any flick on, cant even bring the ball down turn and give a decent pass.

at the minute he's making bianchi look like ibra!

Re: Dzeko

if dzeko plays for city so can i ,,,thats the song i want to sing everytime i see this guy

Dzeko is a decent player...remember his goals against Aris, but he needs crosses, and we don't have the players on the books to provide it.

Disastrous signing, and could cost Mancini his job.

Suddenly the pressure has been ratcheted up a notch, but don't take Bluemoon as a guide of city opinion. It's full of rags, and idiots who have been supporting City all of 5 minutes

I think that if Tevez is leaving in the summer we'll bring in wingers and set up our team for Dzeko and Balotelli.
If thats the case hopefully it works out because at the moment Dzeko and Balotelli just dont seem to be working in our team.

So that's why when Tevez was injured after 17 mins and we had just gone 1-0 down Mancini brought Wright-Phillips on and moved Adam Johnson to the left as it was already obvious at this stage that Dalglish had told his left sided defensive players to triple or quadruple up on him? No he didn't, and he didn't do it at any stage of the game. When it was obvious that Milner was not going to get into the game playing in his preferred attacking centre midfield role did he do the same mow that Balotelli and Dzeko were both on the pitch, playing too far apart? No, he made the change too late and brought Silva on at the risk of him getting injured for the cup SF, which was why he was rested in the first place. Then to top it all he brought De Jong on- playing in an advanced role as he did at Ajax, no- defensive midfield.

Maybe he's secretly wrapping Sean up in cotton wool and they've beeen practicing these mythical crosses for the SF in training- Ahah, the master plan.

Great post

It's awful isnt it, he was poor last night but so were the whole team. The lad is a top striker and it's not working yet but it will.

I've come in here several times and made similar comments about backing him, whats the point.

I fully agree with all of of this.
[ but would add that a bit more aggression from him would'nt go amiss.]

He is contesting with them and did so last night. He also gets mugged repeatedly which tends to make it a touch harder. Andy Carrol was fantastic last night controlling balls and with flicking the ball on but that's easy to do when the defenders are all laying 5 yards off you at all times. Dzeko was just being mugged last night and the ref didn't want to hear it.

Thing is Dzeko is forced a lot deeper then Carroll, because we have such a massive gap in central midfield he had all the time in the world to knock the headers to the right person, no player is going to go out to him and there was no-one in front of that. For us when we play forward Dzeko is just surrounded by players and recieves slow support play anyway so playing kick and rush upto Dzeko is pointless if you can't do the rush part he just gets caught in possession. It wasn't his best game but he needs shots and chances and last night i don't remember us having a single decent chance as a whole collective.

The best thing about Liverpool last night was their width providing an extra option and they were spraying the ball all over the place when was the last time you saw a cross field ball. I'm not saying it's pretty but sometimes you need an extra direct option just to open up play and give them something to think about.

With us its totally predictable, we get the ball and because of a lack of central midfield we got wide to AJ and well he's already got 2 players on him, same for Dzeko with the hoof option. We play the most predictable stance of football imaginable, without De Jong to allow some players to get forward too we have literally a defence, a wide midfielder and 2 strikers and the plan is to hopefully rely on some magic or a mistake to get us a goal.

I'd understand a slagfest for Dzeko if he missed sitter after sitter like Jo, but he has yet to have a good amount of decent attempts on goal every game, he is a complete player, can score with his head and feet but the options we give him are basically : "Here's the ball now do something with it 30 yards from goal."

It's absolutely pointless.

I know, probably most of you saw already enough youtube videos,
but here are two strikes from Dzeko which I like most

5-1 vs. Bayern Munich, the one at 4:15

2-0 vs. VfB Stuttgart, Germanys Top Scorer 2009/10

1:15 (At the beginning you have to wait for the add to end)
Here it was the last game of the season, and he and Kiessling from Bayer Leverkusen had scored 21 goals so far. But Kiessling didn't score in the other game :)

The reason I love this guy is not only he is the best (paid) player from my country, but because I have a feeling that he is really a great person. It has been long since I was a teenager, I'm not just a crazy kid being in love with any star. But, it's hard to understand what Dzeko means to us for those, who are not quite familiar with our recent, or even farther history.

Although I have to admit that he didnt really hit here at Manchester.

But all of those telling Dzeko is shit, you either do not have a clue about football, or you are judging him with some kind of prejudice, or you are just talking shit on purpose.

Having watched first few games (since the game against wolverhampton I just missed Aris away) I really had to wonder what was the idea behind that aquisition. He needs crosses that's true. But damn, he can score with his both feet as well. It's not all about crosses when it comes to Dzeko.
What he also needs is much faster attack build up. I do not know why, but I dont know if City ever played a fast counterattack, like that one from Wolfsburg against Bayern? I remember the one against the Wolves. If there is a real promissing possibility out there, the players are still passing the ball around, leaving opponent enough time to organise the defence, or even make pressure.

Dzeko is world class in the air, and one of the best classical strikers. I know that.
But Dzeko without crosses and a slow build up, is average. Maybe he can thrive even in that circumstances, but he will need time. Much more than I first thought :)

Although now, maybe his time will come sooner. He needs to be loved, to feel that the trainer, the players and the fans are confident with him. And I hope Carlos' is not out for very long, but Mancini and the players will have to believe in Dzeko now, as I cannot see Mancin playing Balotelli very soon after the show against Liverpool. So I really hope he can prove what he is capable of before the next season begins :)

I agree with everything you've said here. Particularly the lack of imagination in our attack. We should have noticed last night after ten minutes of AJ being double/triple covered that Liverpool were content to take that option away from us and risk someone else being the playmaker. We didn't' have any other playmakers in the game so it totally stalled our offense as we went to AJ over and over again and he was caught in possession over and over. Dzeko tried to get involved but there was very little he could do to do so. It's frustrating.
