you're picking out numbers from decades ago and using them when you probably dont know the specific circumstances. where as we all have a proper understanding of whats happened over the last 30 years and the reasons why.

a good example is when city fans point to our trophyless years at the start of the 20th century. a lot of those years were war time and there was no football league. stuff like that

Not all those events were 80-100 years ago. Some were more recent - the ECWC Final in 1970 being one, Louis Edwards propping United up being another. But all that's missing the point - United fans around today spout the lies that I've mentioned and they will continue to do so. So regardless of whether the events happened 100, 80, 50, 20, or 10 years ago you've an army of fans who in the present day tell blatant lies about City.

If we're talking Greater Manchester then United will piss it in fairness. If it's the city of Manchester only (and this is what I'm alluding to) then I reckon it's a lot closer - more than likely not 50-50 but no way is it 80-20 in favour of United either.

Okay, let's include Salford, Trafford, Stretford, Sale, and Stockport then. I still doubt very much that you're talking an 80-20 split in favour of United. Salford is very much a red area and the areas around Stretford, Sale, and Trafford are but there is still a smattering of blues in all those places. Stockport - for all the piss-taking from United fans - is awash with both blues and reds. Either way, taking the areas above into context with everywhere else in Manchester it doesn't equate to United fans outnumbering City's by 4 to 1. If you wanted to take the rest of Greater Manchester into account then you might be getting there.

I was in a pub in New Moston a couple of weeks back with my Uncle, and the conversation invariably turned to football.

We were the only 2 blues in a group of about 15 or 20 - which would tend to back up the outweighing of Rags to City.

However, it very quickly became apparent that very few of these guys knew anything about their team, their current players, the current season (apart from the fact thast they were top of the League), and never went to the swamp.

Before long, it became completely pointless having this conversation as they didn't have a clue what they were talking about, and just kept on coming out with the usual 'How long has it been since you lot won anything?', 'We're top of the League' crap, with absolutely no substance behind it.

Now whilst this was clearly just one pub with about 15-20 individuals, I'm sure most blues can recall countless similar stories in their past.

exactly, the numbers i gave before nearly represent that pub. your sayin about 10:1 in a pub, so the broader ratio would be something like 50:1 outside the pub (football fans generally like pubs)

so u had 2 clued up city fans and 20 united fans. i imagine about 8 out of 20 would be reasonably clued up utd fans.
city fans always seem more 'hardened' because ur constantly surrounded by utd fans. a lot of utd fans rarely exchange views with city fans.

those 20 so called reds could say wot they want without much questionning unless the 2 of u went through each 1 and put him right, but its harder for 2 city fans who are talking to 20 reds u need to be confident in what ur saying.

i admit those numbers could be way off but its the best sense i can make of it.

i think your wrong to ridicule uniteds achievements during war time. a lot of players were no doubt focused on a more important victory whilst 'they were going over the top'.
