I'm not sure throwing in a 18 yr old reserve into that sort of game would have been a good idea. Ed clearly was 100% but other than the goal he did fine after the injury

he selected delph when he had options. delph played once in the last few months, was injured for some weeks and is a liability defensively.
dont want to slate delph, he has his positives but he just is no defender. this was a crucial away game in the champions league. cant play around.

He selected Delph because both Zinchenko and Mendy weren’t fit to play. He picked him with one eye on the Palace game where I’d expect to see Danilo start. He wasn’t playing around with his selection - anybody thinking that is seriously fucking stupid. You honestly think that one of the greatest thinkers of the modern era just decided to throw a few players into the starting 11 without any idea as to how he’d like them to play.
Delph isn’t good enough, no arguments about that but if the idea was to get through that game with a score line that is easily retrieved in the second leg then I don’t think Pep was too far out with his selections.
We beat Palace and go through to the Semis and all the whining about Pep blowing it or not having a clue will be made to look even more ridiculous than it already does.
