150k a week seems a fair deal for both sides......

Dzeko agrees new Manchester City contract

The striker has just one year remaining on his current deal and has accepted an extension, that will run until 2018, which does not increase his £150,000-a-week wage
By Paul Clennam

Edin Dzeko has agreed a new four-year Manchester City contract, Goal understands.

As reported by Goal in April, the Premier League champions planned to open negotiations after the striker impressed Manuel Pellegrini following injuries to Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo.

Goal understands Dzeko has not been offered an improvement on his current £150,000-a-week terms but has agreed to the deal, which now runs until 2018, with an announcement expected before the new season starts.

Dzeko had initially appeared to be on his way out of the club while Roberto Mancini was in charge after starting just 16 Premier League games during the 2012-13 campaign.

The likes of Inter had made him their No.1 transfer target while Borussia Dortmund were assessing his availability before signing Ciro Immobile in June.

However, Dzeko thrived with increased responsibility under Pellegrini, starting 23 leagues games - seven more than the 16 afforded to him by Roberto Mancini the previous term - and notching 26 goals in all competitions.

"I can only say that I am very happy at City and at the moment we are talking about the new contract," Dzeko said earlier this week. "We will see what happens but the main thing is that I'm happy at City.

"We talked about that at the beginning of last season - it's very important you feel the confidence that a manager has in you and last season was proof of everything I said."

Dzeko will become the third first-team player to be offered new terms during the summer, with Alexsandar Kolarov and Samir Nasri penning extensions in June and July respectively.
Excellent news.

Except there's nothing on the OS, so it's just speculation based on Edin's comments

Re: Edin Dzeko

The nice thing is he is not asking for more money as he is well-paid, while the club is covered should he be sold in the next few years.

Re: Edin Dzeko

Hopefully it's confirmed in the next few days. The guy certainly deserves it. He's changed my view of him, I don't mind admitting. 16 goals in 31 PL appearances is none too shabby.

Re: Edin Dzeko

have always been torn on Dzeko, but watching the season DVD again and also 2011/12 DVD the goals he scores and the importance of so many of his goals far outweighs some bad touches silly sulks and odd lazy moments, he does his job and he does it very well.

Re: Edin Dzeko

Hang on. Why on earth would Edin sign a new contract without a better salary?

There must be big big bonuses on offer. Fair enough. He deserves it.

All the pre - Soriano contracts that are being renegotiated are being renegotiated downwards as far as basic salary goes, with big bonuses based on tangible success and performances.

I read that somehwere else. I'd hazard a guess that that's a FFP dodge.

Yes and no. It's true that bonuses don't count toward the wage bill, but Soriano did exactly the same thing at Barca when he first went there in the pre FFP days. He obviously believes you get better value by dishing out large bonuses rather than simply giving huge wages.

Or more incentive for the players to perform?
