Mancini's plan failed. Mancini failed last season. So did our squad. Badly. Don't give them outs they don't deserve.
City trading Cavani for Dzeko would give Mancini an excuse if Pellegrini succeeds, just the same way he was using not getting RVP as an excuse multiple times mid season. Mancini is competitive and like you said perhaps arrogant, his motivation is making himself look good or preventing Pellegrini from making him look bad.
