So exit Eto'o & enter Ibrahimovic, a world class striker but one whose physique & style of play didn't suit Barca.

Ibrahimovic is technically way better than Dzeko, but as with Ibrahimovic's style not suiting Barca, neither does Dzeko's suit our's. This didn't stop either from scoring goals though but what we need is our own Eto'o. Falcoa would have been perfect & Cavani wouldn't be far off, but no matter which way you look at it, Dzeko just doesn't suit our style.

Ibra suited Barca just fine. Perhaps you are unaware of the fact that Pep moved him to the wing after Messi expressed a desire to play upfront? What exactly about Ibra's game is NOT suiting Barca?

Or are all physically large players the same?

I haven't read the thread so apologies if anyone else has said this already.

I'm going to stick my neck out & say I don't think Cavani is any better then Edin. I think we should give Dzeko another season to see what he is like in a different system & save ourselves £50m.

Keep taking the drugs son!!

I must be on the same stuff then coz I agree with him. Dzeko is a finisher and played properly will score a shed load of goals.

But that's the thing. Dzeko never will be used how people think he should be because there are too many players in the the team who play another way that suits other people.

Movement & interchangability (if there's such a word). Neither Ibrahimovic nor Dzeko are as mobile as Eto'o was for Barca or Falcoa was for Athletico or Cavani is for Naples.

Eto'o, Falcoa & Cavani are players who can go out wide & who have the skill, touch & mobility to drop deep & help create attacks as well as being lethal in and around the box. This type of modern day flexibility aren't skills you can attribute to Dzeko in any way shape or form apart from him being good in the box. When Pep wanted Ibra to be more fluid in Barca's system (play out wide, drop deep & not be so static & predictable with his positioning), it was quickly realised that Ibra is a classic No 9 & not suited to that style of play.

Hence one season in Spain & then back to Italy to play in team systems that suit his playing style better inspite of the fact he had a very good goals to game ratio.

I agree on Dzeko, played right he can be shit-hot. For value for money i would much rather the club go for Jovetic, i mean, just look at how Nas has settled.

AND FINALLY

Stoke City's Bosnia and Herzegovina goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, 25, has been voted 'Idol of the Nation' to end Edin Dzeko's three-year reign after helping put his country in a strong position to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

seems edins fans are deserting him in droves

Asmir Begovic is better goalie than anyone in England. :D. At least one class above all of them. We better buy him and sack Panti, JH will warm the bench and play CC and perhaps FA.

Talk about Bosnian goggles :/

Hit the nail on the head & done very diplomatically too, you didn't have to mention Dzeko being a championship quality player once, Im very impressed.

Maybe this is Mancini's way to thank us for the advert...

I interpret his comments as his fear that if Edin stays at City, Pellegrini will utilize his true strengths to the extent that Mancini unfortunately never did... Mancini is afraid of being given a lesson by MP on how to actually build a team that is lethal and motivate players to give 110% every single game.

If Cavani comes now and Dzeko is sold, that will save Mancini from any further criticism about failures in his last managing season. He could just say - "There, I didn't have Cavani on the team"...

Team, as it was under Mancini last season, was not the problem - Mancini wasn't good enough for CIty...
Everytime I watch Spain or Barca I see them facing similar issues to what we faced last season, a lot of possession but no clear cut centre forward who can regularly score goals in the tiki-taka system now that other clubs are finding an antidote to it.

Great points!

Last week I watched Spain vs. Ireland friendly here at Yankees. TBH, I wanted to walk out at halftime - so painful to watch all that possession without goal scoring chances created and be reminded of our last season. Tiki-taka as played under Pep and led by only Messi up front has become predictable and so yesterday in my opinion. Maybe still good and exciting enough playing national leagues but on global stage big dogs figured it out (see Bayern)

Barca had the perfect player for that system but since selling him, they've never quite been the same or managed to replace him..... That player is Eto'o. Eto'o had pace, power, skill, height and an excellent first touch. Left foot, right foot or with his head, he had it all in spades. Most Barca fans liked him but thought there were better strikers out there, so exit Eto'o & enter Ibrahimovic, a world class striker but one whose physique & style of play didn't suit Barca.

I will agree that Eto'o is a notch more valuable as a player than Dzeko in a sense the could take on quite a few players by himself and score magnificent goal. I dont remember him scoring with his head though like Dzeko did for us on many important occasions.

Qualities you listed above for Eto'o and I bolded apply for Edin as well. I really hope Pellegrini works on emphasizing it with Dzeko.

Bang on as it pertains to the team managed and style played under Mancini. All these players have something Dzeko does not - dribbling skills. But that's history and Pellegrini is ready to flip to the page where I hope Edin will play important part and score loads if he remains with new attacking style MP wants to employ.
