The striker has struggled for a consistent run of games since his arrival from Wolfsburg, but the new manager feels the Bosnian can lead the club's attack this term.

Edin Dzeko will be Manchester City's first-choice striker this season, manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed.

Despite an array of competition that includes Argentine Sergio Aguero and new signings Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo, the new boss has pinpointed the former Wolfsburg striker as his main attacking outlet.

"We could've signed other players but I consider [Dzeko] the main striker of the team and I'm sure his performance along the season will be really good," Pellegrini told reporters.

What the hell has Pelle done to Dzeko.....he looks a totally different player.....I've never seen him looking so confident.

Probably put an arm around Dzeko and told him a few kind words. Something the previous manager had no clue one could actually do.

The muppets on here saying an empathetic manager is a weakness look like fools now.

If todays game is a sign of things to come, this season could become a very special one.
