the Edinburgh Derby is on the Sunday 2.15pm ko at Hibs ground so dont know if you are around for that or not.
what kind of food are you looking for? Scotlands best Indian is about 100 yards away from your hotel. The Mitre pub is right across the road from your hotel and is a good place to start your day / night.
if you give me more info on what you are looking for I will give you more detail on all things Edinburgh.

museum of childhood,Holyrood Palace,Castle all on your doorstep
Rose Street.Grassmarket,George Street for pub crawls

Thanks mate. Im arriving on friday about 2pm, want a couple of leisurely tiuristy things to do until 5ish, then a nice place for a drink (maybe a pub/bar that locals go after work?) Then I want a nice (more upmarket) place to eat around 8ish....

Saturday is the main sight seeing day, want to go to the castle, is Arthurs seat worth walking to? (also somewhere nice for breakfast would be good too:)) Any museams, walks etc that you could recommended would be great too.

Somewhere a bit cheaper/quicker to eat and then some nice bars/maybe a club to go to? Looking for relaxed typed bars, not too loud music/dress codes etc- I like in the northern quarter in Manchester if that helps!

Many thanks

Edinburgh's a good place to walk around. You have to see the Castle & Camera Obscura at one end of the Royal Mile, then stop at the Museum of Childhood on the way down, ending up at Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Assembly. Then if you're feeling energetic, up Calton Hill or Arthurs Seat.

There's the New Town and while Princes St isn't what it was, the streets and squares to the north (George Street & Rose Street) are still quite elegant and are full of nice places to eat.

Probably also worth taking a train to Dunfermline for the experience of going over the Forth Rail Bridge.

In the evening Grassmarket is quite lively and the best restaurants are probably in Leith

DO NOT do the whiskey tasting experience on the way up to the castle. Its shit and not worth the money.

have a look at 'The List' eating and drinking website .. its our version of Time Out for all things foodie
for a Friday at 8pl its worth booking somewhere
your hotel is right on the Royal Mile so there are loads of places around but the Holyrood Bar would be good for your Friday afternoon.
Arthurs Seat or Carlton Hill would be good for your Sunday walk as the botanics is a bit further away

Great vodka/ cocktail bar not far from The Grass Market and Royal Mile, though it's only open nights. IMO well worth a look. and there are couple of decent poshish restaurants across the road one with nice views across the Grass Market.
