EDL

So you support speech and expression but you think the EDL are wrong to have meetings to show their disgust at a racist bunch of Asians who want the soldiers who fight for us to all die?
Yes, I support free speech and freedom of expression. I make no apologies for it.

The difference is that although I believe the EDL have a right to go on their protests, and I would die defending that right, I believe they should refrain from using it in the way they do.

You have a very idealised view of the EDL if you think that's what they are doing.

I don't see what all the fuss is about.
We are a democracy that allows peaceful protest.
It goes with the territory that occasionally this means extending this right to those who's message you may not wish to hear, and this, paradoxically, also includes those who would deny others that very right if they were in charge, such as the EDL and supporters of Islamic Fundamentalism.
I would like to think that this unifying irony was not lost on both of these groups, but it probably is.

Should send them around old trafford and leave them to riot.

Good idea.
Anything that gets them off the streets of Manchester.

Good post ^

Whilst I have posted on this thread before stating what a bunch of bell-ends all these protagonists are, freedom of association is another feature that hallmarks a civilized society. The fact that they would deny it to us makes it even more important (eeez important) for us to ensure that they are allowed to exercise that right fully.

It's a defence from within rather than against an armed foreign threat outside the border.

I am not a fan of the EDL but the two posts I am quoting are always thrown around and don't really make any sense.

SWP's back, i have noticed quite a few, of your posts recently. They are grounded, sensible and accurate. Stop it, just stop it now. I'm blaming the settling down thing.

Cunty fuck pig!

It's all about class war really.

To the middle class, UAF supporter the Asians are mere chips in their high-stakes game of dominance and exploitation of the lower classes.

The UAF are a bunch of cunts and I hope they get their arses kicked in Rochdale by the working class EDL.

Oh no - this would clash with the Whitworth Crossword Club's Annual Awards and Presentation afternoon at Rochdale Town Hall. If anyone interrupts Miss Blanchards acceptance speech for winning Best Use Of Correction Fluid In A Cryptic Puzzle there will be carnage.

I have to say that all three parties mentioned in this thread are (almost) as bad (and as dishonest) as each other.

The EDL are basically a bunch of racists who don't mind black people as much as asian ones. It's like BNP lite.

Islamists basically stand against everything that is good about western liberal values. Democracy, an independent judiciary, trial by jury, freedom of speech, women's rights, and freedom of sexuality.

And then there's the hard left. Once again they appear to fall into the unprincipled mode of my enemy's enemy is my friend. The values mentioned above (especially the last three) were principles that the left fought for over a number of years especially in the 70's and 80's. And rightly so. They should be very proud of that. The fact that they are now bedfellows with people to whom those values are a complete anathema is nothing short of a disgrace.

Why don't they grow a pair and dissasociate themselves from these fascists rather than stand alonside them just because they are asian.

Great post

The assumption that the Unite against Fasiscm is made up of middle class students is or at least would be laughable if it wasnt for the fact that my and our taxes will be spent policing this protest against the EDL while they try and signify that they are a real force in British politics.
The days of their fathers being allowed to sell their rascist bigoted and hate filled bile in the concourses of Maine Road, Elland Road Stamford Bridge and the like under their previous guise of the National Front) are long gone and the ordinary decent people are no longer willing to listen to the cr@p that they spout.
As an ex-serviceman I have very strong views on the behaviour of a certain element of muslims in OUR country, however I have also seen the battlefields of northern france where too many of my family fell to fight the scourge of fascism and to protect the freedom of expresson that we currently enjoy.
