Mario was damaged goods by that stage. His contract was in the final two years and had no intention of signing a new one.

He didn't want to stay and we did well to get our money back based on the fact he only wanted to go back to Italy.

£20m was a good deal made by us.

Benzema is talented but his attitude to keeping fit is awful. I'd rather we didn't touch him.

I don't understand the comparisons to number 9s either.

You wouldn't compare Del Piero, Totti, Baggio or Mancini to Batistuta or Shevchenko would you?

He's probably the closest thing to a modern day fantastista out there and I like him a lot. That said, he isn't yet worth the money talked about and I don't think he'll leave Milan.

Not exactly, Shaarawy scored a lot of goals (before balo arrived) playing on the left of a three but a lot of his play comes from deep in his own half. He offers a lot lot more to the overall team than Balo does. Balo now plays an almost exclusive centre forward role, Shaarawy never has in his time at Milan.

There are better options in Serie A, eg. Lamela

Have to agree. Completely different. But in all areas goals/assists/ percentage hit rate etc etc he beats Balo and he comes without the attitude.

No way a poor man's Balo and huge potential to get even better. Its a shame he wants to stay.
