Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Got to say I'm not at all convinced by Mangala and for 32m I think it's a huge risk to be kept out of the team by Sakho tells you all you need to no

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Thank god our club employs a well trained and extensive scouting team that specialises in thorough reports/dossiers compiled after months of watching a player rather than basing its opinions on the selection policy of one national team coach afraid of taking risks. Following the same logic used on here, Clichy must be about Derby County level since he couldn't even make the squad as #2 left-back behind Evra and Nasri must be bad for City's team spirit because Deschamps thinks he's bad for France's.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

All scouting teams make mistakes. God knows ours has made enough over the years. I think the reason Mangala didn't get a minute at the world cup is that he is too eager and too aggressive. He has everything in his locker to be top class but every time in have seen him he has rushed into something and been caught out most of the time he can recover with his impressive speed or strength but he depend too much on his physical ability. A good defence need 5 people knowing and doing their roles being disciplined and working hard for each other. Physically Mangala is there but mentally im not so sure. Hope im wrong cause if he realises even half of his potential we will have on monster of a defender.

So we are buying a French Micah Richards with x3 transfer fee then.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

You'd think the club have been given some encouragement by the player and/or his agent to still be pursuing this. For that reason I'm not really arsed about any quotes that he'd prefer a move to London, as I've no idea in what context they were said. I don't think he's taken the piss out of the club in the way some suggest.

For that transfer fee it still represents a gamble, of course, but it's not my money and I trust Begiristain's judgement. I'll be happy if we get either Mangala or Benatia to be honest, regardless of the fee. I'd be disappointed if we let Nastasic go though.

While I agree that I'm not sold on him, not that I've seen a lot of him. But unfortunately there aren't many good CH's period, let alone that are available. Hence the 50m for Luiz. The were asking for 42m in Jan, Roma asking for 50m for Benatia, Southampton asking for 20m for Lovren. It just seems that if you are going to buy a CH you are going to have to overpay. He has been the target since Jan so in that respect I have to believe in the club's decision because they have been right on the money since Txiki and Serran have taken over.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Won't comment on the guy's ability because I've never seen him play, but I simply can't understand why we're continuing to pursue a guy, who has publicly stated he doesn't want to join us, with such vigour.

There were also some press reports, yesterday, suggesting that Benatia has stated he would rather join Chelsea or Barcalona

I don't care how good the two of them currently are. (Or are gonna be in the future), If neither is prepared to fully commit to the club, and wear the shirt with pride, we leave both of 'em by the roadside and move on, in my opinion
