ELO

I loved ELO in the 70's and my favourite was Sweet talkin woman........

I guess they weren't seen as cool as other bands but they turned out some great hits.

Sad that they split and Jeff Lynne plus the pianist did some gigs in the US .......

The rest of the members toured as the Orchestra and I caught them and they were v good. Sadly the guitarist and co-singer Kelly Groucutt passed away , but they remain touring with a few new members. May try and catch them again......

Mike Edwards has also passed away in a real freak accident. Richard Tandy was the pianist IIRC.

As much as I loved the new music in the late 70's there was always one established band that always did it for me.

Electric Light Orchestra.

Accomplished and supreme.

Anyone else like them?

Great Band and Out of the blue is especially good.

However Blondie Parallel Lines and Abba are equally good.

i love the clash,there great.
Bollocks; tuneless shit (like 90% of the punk era). "Should I stay or should I go?" Please Joe, fucking go!

You should be fucking sectioned mate.
The Clash were in a different league to ELO.
There is simply no comparison.

The clash were good as well and you are correct - a lower league.

-- Wed Jul 18, 2012 8:59 pm --

No.

Jeff Lynne's poor attempt at a Beatle tribute band came full circle when he worked on The Beatle's Anthology.

The move?

Liked them in the Roy Wood days and the 70's Jeff Lynne stuff wak OK.

Musicianship was top. Lyrics and singing less so.

Parallel Lines was really good, loved that album.

But not an album I'd say was one of the greatest.

Cannot stand them. Right up there with Queen on my list of bands I wish never existed.

Ah but you see it was brill and the appeal to men must be obvious.

ELO and Abba were the only bands whose album tracks were just as good as their releases.

Blondie came *very* close to that standard.

Hmm. Looking back at that, I really should practice what I preach and not post when drunk. Still would prefer ELO to most of the punk/new wave era though. A bit more diplomacy would have been good back then.
