Elon Musk buys and ruins Twitter

The features ‘limiting daily tweets’, ‘limiting following’, were probably written years ago, and then just yesterday activated for a subset of the Twitter user base, to gauge feedback/pushback.
Most large software companies do this all the time. I can only presume the software license (which no one reads) allows them to run these user studies at will.
Some ‘decent’ software makers allow you to opt out of this data gathering, eg Firefox, in its privacy setting allows you to disable ‘studies’ - whatever they (Firefox) may choose to be - and so have a little less privacy eroded away.

They are called AB tests. You can do something like a 50/50 split on your userbase to see what features cause issues or work well, monetise more, cause user drop off etc.

Half the time its little things like the position of a button etc.
