I’m sure they appreciate the money earned from the replay and how it maybe contributed to future success. But nobody will be writing an article fondly remembering getting twatted at Old Trafford, even though the club made a load of dough from it.

I can guarantee that there are many fans of burton who fondly remember watching their team play at old Trafford.one of my friends is a Crawley town fan and he still goes on about the day they played Man Utd. Scoreline is irrelevant it’s the stuff of dreams for fans and players of lower league clubs. As you mention the money earned also helped create many more memories which if it wasn’t for the huge attendance at old Trafford wouldn’t have been possible.

Not to mention if the game went to extra time it would make it more likely United would win as they have the better squad so can make subs etc as well as the better fitness levels.

It's probably not practical because of 'too much football'. I wish it were. As far as I am concerned, they are scrapping the wrong things. Get rid of pointless international friendlies instead. They could also simplify the European competitions instead of making them even more complex. As they are planning to do.

Were you also against the scrapping of unlimited replays on the grounds that could have denied a hard up lower league club an extra three or four or even more money spinning games?
 
Everyone's complaining about getting rid of replays because of the financial benefit to small clubs.

I can't really understand how the solution is not to just give them more money in the first place so they're not relying on the luck of a replay.

A little bit extra money for all of the lower league clubs is a much more beneficial and sustainable way to run the game than a system that relies on clubs getting a windfall for playing at a massive stadium once a decade.

The FA presumably have done that, which is how they got the lower league representatives to agree, and they've pointed out they're going to be televising a lot more early round matches which will bring in a decent amount.

They get an extra £33M / season as part of the deal
