Emirates FA Cup Changes Ahead of 2024/25:

There is other leagues than the premier league ffs. Just this year Horsham played at Barnsley and earned a replay that was then televised. Maidstone had their incredible run, Aldershot took Stockport to areplay that was televised and beat them to get a game away at West Brom, alfreton drew with walsall earning themselves a replay, cray drew to Charlton earned a replay and got a televised game. The money earned by these clubs from the extra gate receipts as well as the tv revenue makes a huge difference not to mention the memories for the fans of these clubs!

Lincoln a few years ago reached the quarter finals and used the money to get out of the conference and into league 1. That run included a few replays. There is more to football than the premier league

I’m well aware the Premier League isn’t everything. The vast majority of FA Cup replays don’t involve glamour sides or live TV. They probably cost the away side more money in expenses than prize and gate money in the early rounds, more often than not if they’re not local.

Also in the vast majority of cases a side pulling off a surprise draw against superior opposition will lose the replay. By having the original game go to penalties, they’re increasingly their chances of actually winning and maybe getting even more attractive opponents in the next round.

The very early rounds are regionalised so it’s very unlikely clubs would lose money. I see what your saying re the replay but that isn’t always the case and your not taking into account the gate receipts (for eg burton made over a million pound when they played man utd few years back at old Trafford). There was two replays televised in the first round of fa cup which included both Horsham and Cray. The prize money for winning was circa 22k the television money was 30k. Even if they don’t win that amount of money is astronomical for these teams.

The fact the lower leagues weren’t even consulted says it all.

The replay were mostly scrapped 30 years ago and limited to 1, and that was soon scrapped in the later rounds.

It is a minor change now, fans and clubs don't want 3 or 4 replays taking it out of pockets and players. Scrapping them was sensible 30 years ago and I am surprised it took that long to get rid completely in the proper rounds like the league cup.

Tradition was unlimited replays - not just one. Tradition has long gone.

The only thing that remains that is traditional is having the Semis and Final on the same neutral ground in London.

The FA Cup actually gives me the best chance to catch City away as the tourists don't get it and the allocations are great. To me its still part of the bedrock of our national game not the mickey mouse European tournaments West Ham and Utd tend to play each year!

Another nail in the coffin. This is partly down to the Huge TV deal the Premier negotiated a few seasons back. The bigger clubs will not be intrested in giving the smaller clubs a bigger slice because of the lack of replays.

Can’t really see any negatives other than just automatically being against any change to tradition as a matter of principle.

The whole idea of a cup competition is the jeopardy of a one off tie.

I don’t see a non league club drawing with a Premier League team once every 20 years and being denied the opportunity of making a few quid on a replay, is much of an argument for having hundreds of other needless replays in between.
Good points actually,

No replay means lower placed teams drawn at home have more chance of going through if at home. Presumably games all square after 90 mins will got to ET and then penalties?

Thinking about it, the fucking irony.

Lower league Clubs complaining they will miss out on the opportunity of extra cash from a replay but PL sides saying replays are detrimental to European campaigns and the associated Income!

It's coming across as lower league Clubs would rather get a draw and replay than actually winning the game first time out just for the £££!

No problem with that but don't dress it up as something else.

Although it does reduce the amount of fixtures for the Premier League clubs and brings in line with the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal it still does rob the smaller clubs a chance to take a bigger club to a replay. The competition doesn't really need revamping
