Energy companies and direct debits

Cheers, I’ll swap round and just use the gas central heating and keep the fire off, it’s a feature fireplace that is lit up. I take it just using the electric to light up the fireplace without the heating on won’t cost too much?
Nah shouldn't be much but if you have it on all evening and can swap the bulb out for an LED version every little helps.

Unbelievable what you people pay,2 of us retired home most of the day just had our 3 month gas and Electric bill £152,been with utility warehouse for 8 years never a problem and we don't pay them a penny till we get the bill every 3 months. Also I read my own meters phone them in every quarter and get the correct readings to pay. Also i keep well away from them smart meters.
That's amazingly cheap. We were on £74 a month until the end of a 3 year fixed deal with EDF at the start of last December. I took them up on an offer 2 or 3 months earlier which kicked in at the end of the last one at £110 per month (another 3 year fixed deal) which was a big jump.

I've just checked with the MSE energy club site and the cheapest deal is from OVO at £191 per month fixed for a year :(

Hmm, just checked our breakdown for last year and our electric went up about £48 a quarter from around February. That was when I built the lad a new PC and he went from an i3 dual core to a Ryzen 5 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor with my old Sapphire R9 290 TRI-X OC Graphics Card as I couldn't find a more modern affordable card (and still can't). Think I'll put his keep up...

Just kick him out, you know it makes sense

It’s one of these, quite a few bulbs!

I was going to attach a photo but the file is too big. it’s got several coloured bulbs, I’ll see if I can get LED versions, thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

I wonder how many MPs (of all sides) have jobs/shares/"Interests" in these energy companies?

People are struggling, and it's not just your stereotypical poor. People on perceived actual "living wages" are being bit on the arse.

Spose it doesn't matter when you can claim expenses to pay your household bills....

Bastards.

I can't swap for cheaper deals. I'm trapped like every one else on this thread.

No one.
The govt are keeping it going.
As Bulb were the biggest to go bump the Government pumped in £1.7 billion, that's £1000 per customer, to keep it going.
Not sure what the long term plan is regarding this money hopefully it will be treated as a loan

Martin lewis says dont leave heating on all the time , it is cheaper to put it on and off as you need it
Well that's all well and good but he doesn't have to deal with my wife does he. Obviously I am keen to save where possible but it's just not worth the hassle and I don't want to be anything like my dad, it was bloody awful hearing him ranting about lights being left on.

Despite what Martin says leaving it on 24/7/365 made absolutely no difference to overall costs for the 2 years previous to the price hike a few months ago, usage is still the same but the costs are about to spiral.
