England Squad - Euro 2024

I expected Maddison to be cut. It's the right call. Only plays as a 10 effectively and hasn't been in form recently. We are stacked in attacking areas.

Trafford, Quansah, Jones and Watkins will defo miss out too I think.

Had Wharton pencilled as one to be cut but he makes it now, and Shaw training means Gomez gets cut as Konsa gives the defensive cover in multiple positions.

Final place is tricky. Dunk, Guehi and Branthwaite all fighting to stay in. Guehi was dross but has come through the England system so Southgate will likely keep him. Dunk possibly has that bit more versatility but when they're unlikely to get on the pitch it makes sense to go with Branthwaite because he is young, but I think he gets cut too.

You did mate, remember we predicted the 7 a good few week back and you quite correctly did, I still expect Watkins over Toney though.

Yeah having that debate with a Villa fan I know. I would take him personally, he's something different in the attacking areas. But Southgate doesn't really do different. His perspective will be Kane plays the whole game, unless we're 3-0 up in which case you don't need something different. When you need something different is if we need a goal, and in that case Kane stays on the pitch anyway so it's likely to be wide areas we make changes. And then if you're going to penalties you'd want to throw your striker on for the last few seconds to take one. And Toney would be preferable to Watkins in that case. If Kane is injured Toney is also more similar in style of play.
 
Not surprised by Maddison's omission.
Eze did really well and has a change of pace that Maddison doesn't.
Grealish's impressive cameo the other night may just have pushed his mate out of the night.

Please don't mention penalties yet, tournament not even started yet ffs :)
