I think it’s no coincidence that Pep hasn’t put any English player in his midfield 3 for any length of time.

It requires intelligence. Foden has awesome footballing abilities, but his brain may well prevent him being a great unless the penny drops at some point. He’s had 5ish years of Pepball and he still isn’t trusted in his midfield.

Bellingham has less natural ability and seems similar in mental capacity to Foden.

Obviously these are my own humble opinions and Pep could prove me a complete idiot, but I struggle to see what Bellingham adds.
In fairness Silva was a wide player at Fodens age. Hopefully he does develop but time will tell.

So walker started did he? Despite missing the last 3 games for us and something like 4 other right backs in the squad. Thanks Gareth.

Playing Maguire is also a huge kick in the teeth for other players, basically confirming that certain players will always get a chance under Southgate regardless of their ability, form or attitude. He'll go to the world cup even if he doesn't play another minute of club football before then.
I can’t understand why Tomori who starts for Milan didn’t play v Italy

Sadly you know what’s coming at the World Cup :( any half decent manager would have see us win at least one major tournament out of the last 2 but sadly he’s poor and got given a free ride due to his predecessors:( he’s been found out

We were crap again, if this is us with a so called golden generation we've been lied to about the standard of the premier league and its players.

Just a glorified friendly tournament that means nothing, we have done the biz (relatively) in the big tournaments under him.
Not really. The euros was totally there to win and he bottled it. World cup we had a very lucky run and lost to the first decent team

Its despite southgate, not because

Indeed - but unless a England Manager actually wins a major tournament (which is a massive massive ask regardless how good the squad is) then they simply get labelled as ‘failures’ , always said it’s the ultimate poison chalice

Every fan has a different view on formations and players with tribal club loyalty a factor so there’s no squad or tactics that can please ever.

Not defending England or Southgate in the Nations League, we’ve been awful. But for Major Tournaments is where I reserve judgment and Southgate has done more than enough to have another crack imo.
The Euros were there for the taking last year and his tactics stopped us from winning it. Italy are an average side, yet we played against them with a negativity and like we were scared of them as if they were 2002 Brazil.

We very nearly didn’t even make the final with what he did in ET against Denmark.

Has anyone ever actually labelled this bunch as a golden generation? Can’t say I can recall hearing it. Clearly isn’t either way.

These players and the team are constantly rated higher than the previous golden generation, over-hyped as I said just as we always are.
