Tonights game is a walk of shame, it's an unwatchable train wreck and waistcoat needs to be gotten rid off before the WC.

Which is another train wreck.

Hate to say it, but the only style that would work with this team is a Klopp style of get it down the wings and try and cut in/cross for Kane.

No idea what we're doing at the minute. That performance Friday was awful against a horrendous Italy team.

Not sure who could come in, needs to be someone who can play attacking football.

Probably a fair shout

In my opinion he should try to play Kane/Foden in the Kane/Son role. Not that Son and Foden are that alike, but I think Foden has the ability to do a similar role for England and carry the ball, assist and bag goals too, and create chances for Kane with his quality. Some would say sterling used to do that role for England with Kane but sterling falls over his feet more often than not and doesn’t really have to quality on the ball that Foden does.

Whatever people think of Kane, he’s an excellent goalscorer, he’s proven it year after year. He’s a few off being England’s top scorer of all time but we don’t seem to be able to create chances for him anymore. Now it’s like he has to fashion chances out of nothing with a low chance of scoring them.

Sadly Southgate doesn’t seem to really understand the attacking side of the game. To me it’s not that complicated. Kane is our best goalscorer by a mile. Foden our most talented and technical attacking player, so play one off of the other and build the rest of your attack and midfield to compliment them.

There is no way we don’t have the personnel to score goals, these players do it every week in the Premier League. There is just no logic to the way they are being set up and made to play.

It seems other top national teams don’t really have this confusion when it comes to their top attacking players, everyone knows who is the best choices and they have a definitive role in the team when everyone is available.

It seems to me that Southgate doesn't really pick the team himself, he seems to just come out afterwards and try and justify the selection, almost apologising for it.
There is no logical explanation as to why Slabhead was included - none whatsoever. He doesn't start for his club, who are one of the poorest teams in the Premier league, yet he gets another international cap from Southgate...why?
The reason I ask is because Southgate doesn't seem to know the answer himself. Not once have I heard him explain the thinking behind including Maguire in his team, so if he doesn't know himself why the Slab is there just who the fuck is in charge of the England set up?

More to all this than meets the eye.
Maguire alongside Dier is a disaster. Both want to play sideways short passes to each other with no attempt to move forward. Southgate must be deranged. He could play Stones and Ben White with Chilwell at left back and Walker or James at right back. The midfield could be Foden (number 8 or 10), Rice (or Bellingham) and Ward Prowse. He could even play Trent on the right hand side of midfield. And the front three could be Sterling, Kane, and Grealish. Foden is flexible enough to move into the front three at any time if required. Sakka can also play in the front three (or 8 or 10 (but never at Left Back). Christ England were even lumping free kicks from near the half way line into the box. Southgate has taken the team back 25 years.

You would hope so. We're relegated, tonight's game is a free hit. Have a look at some other players or a different system. Actually go out to win the game by means other than set pieces.

He may shuffle a few in.
However I suspect he'll still stick to the same style of play.
Dreary shite,for the most part.

To be fair he's said he wanted to emulate the Germans, who always seem to have a set style of play and stick at it.
Can't argue with their results, down the years.
Mind you, they've had excellent coaches developing their systems.

We've got Gareth.

Done well in what way ???
Scuppering our chances of actually winning things ........... as for being better than Robson the same Bobby Robson that was robbed by a cheat in 1986 and was very unfortunate in 1990 :( Southgate has had none of that to deal with and the only reason we ain’t won a thing is down to him not the players him
I don't think many people expect England to win the World Cup or Euros, certainly not with this squad of players we've got. We got to a semi final and a final. That's pretty "done well" to me! :)

England scraped through to the semis in Italia 90 - we relied on the brilliance of Platt to beat Belgium in ET, struggled against Cameroon and even in the group stages struggled against Egypt. Given the players we had at the time like Lineker, Gascoigne, Waddle, Walker, Pearce, Robson, Barnes, Beardsley you could argue that he should've done better.

I think some people just don't like Southgate, regardless of what he does. However, the fact remains that his record in tournaments is only bettered by Sir Alf Ramsay.

Out the world cup in a week will help our players have a rest.

Small mercies.
