Italy 1-0 England. England relegated.

Out of not very much at all, a wonder goal! Raspadori takes delivery of a speculative pass down the inside-left channel. He brings it down from the sky, takes a touch to the left, drops a shoulder back to the right, sending Walker off to the shops, and whips a sensational shot across Pope and into the right-hand side of goal. One hell of a finish!

In the meantime it’s surely the end of the road for the hapless Southgate.

He had his chance and has been found to be unfit for purpose.

But she already has a job so she isn't going to take charge of the men's squad right now, is she? My point stands - getting rid of the manager at this stage is pointless - there aren't any more international breaks after this, so any new manager has no time to work with the players and will probably end up picking a squad with most of the players who went to the Euros, injuries permitting.
I would say it is less pointless than keeping Southgate on, as I can’t imagine the team has much confidence in him and his tactics at this point. Even a management shake up would likely give more energy and purpose to the players, especially many of the currently fringe players under Southgate (a few that I think should be starting).

And if they were allowed to play a more attacking system—which the vast majority of our best players are accustomed to at their clubs—they will likely perform better in general.

By the way, I was saying I think they will go out early under Southgate, so at least have them go out early trying to play *entertaining* football.

Maybe ha.
Look at the squad properly though, pretty poor defence, average at best midfield and half decent forwards.
The squad isn't as good as people seem to think.
ROI fan here. I can tell you what a poor squad is and England isint one. They have a fantasticly talented pool of players to chose from. However they have a poor manager, and politics are a big influence in team selection.. The right manager and right team selection yous will win trophys

England never had so many good players spread over five, six, even seven clubs in PL who were winning titles or reaching the finals of European club competitions. Fuck the golden generation, they might have been golden egos generation only. It is this mediocre manager at best, totally bereft of any ideas and know-how that's killing this team He's been setting up his team to suit his defence, a typical mindset of a bottom half PL manager or a football pundit. Southgate is a decent man, but a crap manager. His England team is on the slide for 4 years and everything they achieved so far, they did in spite of him. England played well when Raheem played well and since his form crashed England's did as well. Kane is a good or call him even a top CF (or he used to be), but in this England squad he is only there to be 'the skipper' and somehow break Shearer's goal record and he needs four-five players working for him to score a goal. In his last few games his idea of playing is having Foden or Raheem in the last third trying to receive 40 yards passes from our defenders while being surrounded by two or three defenders and somehow releasing Kane. The other MF players are there just to defend the majority of those ball being intercepted or bouncing around like a pin-ball. And then he starts making forced changes when we are one or two goals down. Playing Saka on the left, in 3-4-3 formation, what the fuck......somebody should take away his badges!

A new manager starting the day before the first World Cup game would find it hard not to have better tactics with a squad he’s never worked with before than Southgate has after six years.

No shame in the occasional loss to teams like Italy and Germany. But to keep losing, including that total capitulation to Hungary (a well-drilled, organised team but with few really top class players) is a real problem.

How a side with that much attacking talent can be so dull and lacklustre over a series of matches is beyond me.

--------------Ramsdale
Walker---Stones---Dier---Chilwell
--------Henderson---Rice
Foden-------Bellingham-----Grealish
----------------Kane

Take Maddison as back up for Bellingham, bring Sterling on when we need a bit of pace, play James/TAA when we're chasing a game.

It's a shame Phillips is out.

The above team with decent tactics gives us a chance, a slim one.
