England V Italy, Quarter Final 2012 (merged)

Boring, tired, uninventive, boring, predictable, lacking, boring chancers.

Right team won. Wish they had done it in 90 minutes. At least then we would not have to listen to the penalty nonsense for another........forever!

Thought Hart looked OK,
Johnson decent,
Lescott and Terry strong, although Balotelli made a few chances for himself,
Cole was his usual dependable self until the penalty,
Milner worked hard and got some decent crosses in but looks average when used as a mug,
Gerrard was our best player this tournament, but average tonight,
Parker flatters to deceive and was poor tonight,
Young's penalty summed up his entire tournament,
Welbeck had a few nice touches but did not hold the ball up for support,
Rooney was poor, especially by his high standards.
Carrol was OK when he came on but got no service for his strengths
Walcott threatens but rarely delivers,
Henderson is a joke at international level
Oxlaide-Chamberlain looks like he could develop, but we thought same about Walcott,
Baines, Jagielka, Jones, et al did not get a look in, which shows just how lacking we are in ANY depth!

TBH, I think England missed Barry as a midfield anchor and starter of forward movement. However, in Hodgson;s set-up he would have been nullified into chasing world class shadows!!

We need help......BADLY!

Who is this 'Johnson' people refer to as having played well? I saw Glen Johnson play but he was absolute dog shit throughout the tournament so it can't be him?

Played for a draw and had no idea[/quote]

To think there's some truth in that is hilarious - England actually playing for penalties?!?!

I don't think it is true - the substitutions clearly showed that the manager had attacking intent - he was just misguided and mistaken in thinking that Welbeck and Rooney should come off, when it should have been the other 2 front players - and it would never have occurred to him to bring Milner more into the middle to take some weight off Gerard and Parker, so possibly freeing up Gerard to cause a further attacking threat.

Rooney was a waste of space all night; young a waste of space all tournament.

As for our 2 penalty missers - karma. Couldn't have happened to 2 more appropriate twats.

I think what people mean is in the previous games he has been2/10 but last night he was more 4/10 so i guess he was twice the player last night

Not sure if this has been done in the previous 130 odd pages!
How many players have gone down with cramp after 70 minutes? I can only remember Gerard, and thought it strange that the media had been saying how fit he was, yet, he cramped up and, whilst he wasn't doing much to influence the game after about 30 minutes anyway, he didn't influence it at all after the bout of cramp. 70 mins is very early in a game to cramp up. I guess chasing shadows is extra tiring.
I presume most of the other England players were cramping up too, but just didn't fall down - might explain why they were shit.
Anyway, just imagine if we'd come second in the group and had to play Spain, without the likes of Gerard getting that 1 extra day of rest.... 10-0 for Spain, do you reckon?
