England v Italy

England didn't play particulary badly but when you look at the squad you realise just how poor it is.
Italy are a poor side but they know how to grind results out and have players who can dictate the pace of the game, England don't have that and like someone said earlier, it's a tournament too far for the likes of Gerrard and Rooney.

I enjoyed that match, we saw a lot of the positives we've all been asking for god knows how long.

I thought it was one of the most attacking exciting England performance since the Euros in 96, if we let the youngsters go for it against Uruguay I think we will win, I can sympathise with Rooney been played out of position but that's down to Woy not having the balls to drop him if he thinks Sterling is what we need in that 10 role, however Rooneys attitude should have been to knuckle down and protect Baines not whinge about it. Woy changed the shape of the team to accommodate Rooney with the subs, when all he had to do was take Rooney off for Llanna to solve the problem.

It wasn't a bad performance just not good enough at this level. When an Italian defender had the ball 2 or 3 of their midfielders ran towards him. When an England defender had the ball all of our midfielders ran away from him. we just cant build from the back. Our more direct approach worked at times but we let the Italians control the game for too long.

But .....but R Wayne is genuine world class ........... takes games b the scruff of the neck.......... massive tally of world cup goals and that............ of course he accommodates him in the team...................

I also think we are spoiled watching City these days as well, there is always someone to pass too, yesterday many times the nearest player to the fullbacks was 30 yards away.

I thought Hodgson went for it a bit more than I thought he would, he got Barkley on with a decent amount of time left. I didn't understand putting Wilshire on. I think England played relatively OK & it was quite a decent match to watch, but Italy did what Italian teams do, counter attack well & then defend well once they get infront. If that twat Rooney could shoot straight then we would have got something out of the match, shocking miss.

Enjoyed the game apart from the result, which isn't something I can often say about watching England. Let's hope they can win the next two games & progress.
