Rice holding with Henderson and Jude pushing forward
Ok thanks. Then my previous comments are valid.

To me, the three of them have the same natural game. and similar attributes, box to box midfielders. Each of them try and play that role for England to an extent and sometimes that works well (the first goal yesterday) but it doesn't consistently allow for control of a game or fluid transitions.

Rice doesn't fit our view of a DM based on the way Pep plays and that doesn't mean I think he is a bad player - he is clearly a talented lad. He just wouldn't fit our team (but neither would 'Hendo'). I think based on what I have seen this world cup Bellingham could do the Gundo role for us as his technical ability seems to be better than the other two. We shall see.

he's protecting the back 4

giving Bellingham more of a free role

has been making vital interceptions and tackles and closes down loads of areas on the pitch

a big reason we're not conceding and barely letting opposition trouble us

''I feel like everyone needs to start giving us the credit. Every time we win a game, people try to pick apart something and if it was another nation they would be talking about how it was a masterclass performance. I think that was us tonight.'

Are you joking

He is the weakest link , first 30 minutes he left maguire and stones with no out ball

He hides as he doesnt have the technically ability required to do the role he needs to do ....

Not really an argument , it forces England to go long

Thought we were fucking class.

Brilliant energy from 20 minutes onwards, solid defensively, midfielders grafting their bollocks off and plenty of very high quality play in the final third.

Thought Kane was outstanding and Senegal had no answer for the times he dropped deeper. Immense finish for his goal. MOTM for me.

Kane has a great eye for a pass and making space. If we had a good finisher upfront as him I'd be tempted to start him in a deeper role for England. Either way he can do both sufficiently enough

Not sure exactly what your point is mate in relation to my post ?
It was a kind of addendum because people were talking about Rice and his qualities based largely on his performances recently for England. and when you brought up Ferna I was pointing out that when playing with other players in the WC he could look a lot poorer than he did at City.

Wasn't meant as criticism of anyone in particular, just pointing out the context.

I thought that there appeared to be too few passing options for the centre backs yesterday and part of that is probably Rice but I could not really determine how much as the camera angles didn't really show the movement of others when our backs were on the ball, nor do we know what the instructions were from Southgate.

I’m with you now mate, cheers for clarifying.

For me , Rice is what I’d call an ‘old school’ defensive midfield player, one that’s there to screen the back four, nothing wrong in that and he’s arguably the best England have in that respect, but the position has moved on from what it was on an elite level stage, some people fail to recognise that I think mate.
That’s great when you spend long periods without the ball, England don’t so he needs to adapt or Phillips should come in.

Right up there with some of the biggest nonsense I've read here.
