Are you joking

He is the weakest link , first 30 minutes he left maguire and stones with no out ball

He hides as he doesnt have the technically ability required to do the role he needs to do ....

Not really an argument , it forces England to go long

I agree

He can rarely find space and can’t really receive the ball from the defenders on the turn and find a pass forward. He usually just ends up playing it straight back to Stones or Maguire anyway.

A lot of England’s best play come from bypassing Rice but that’s not ideal to be doing it all the time. Then you end up with Maguire having to try to thread balls through to other players, and in fairness he does it well sometimes but it’s not going to come off sometimes, it gets intercepted and you’re on the back foot in a dangerous situation.

I like Rice, he’s decent and a trier, but I believe England would massively benefit from having someone with real technical ability in that role.

Might have to give your tactical insight to the best managers in the world who rate him very highly and will be bidding 80+ mill in the Summer

Technically he's very good. I don't know who or what games you have been watching. He was far from great against the US but who did play well for us that game?

Rice is pure quality and still young enough to improve. He will have his pick of clubs when he leaves West Ham for a reason, for those that could afford him.

If/when we lose our next game -looks like Rice will be the scapegoat on here

I just don’t think he’s very good in that role, the deep lying midfielder. He does a job but there’s a lot more expected in that role these days and he seems to lack the speed of thought and vision to take the ball from the defence and get things moving quickly. Happy to be proven wrong but the game completely passed him by yesterday.

Not saying he isn’t a good player, I just don’t think he excels in that role.

Rice does what he’s very good at in a team that doesn’t always have the majority of possession. You could argue the France game will suit him down to the ground as they’ll probably have the majority in that game. Put Phillips in next to him instead of Henderson in this one and we win. Against the lesser sides he’s found wanting as he just doesn’t play the role he’s being asked to do often enough, not a criticism but that’s just the way I see it.

He's decent at what he does but is just too one dimensional to ever be one of the best IMO.

That’s great when you spend long periods without the ball, England don’t so he needs to adapt or Phillips should come in.
Pretty much my point mate that he needs more to his game in that position against elite players.

Not by me, but it’s about accepting he has limitations against elite players and teams, and I get that being one of yours you’ll defend him, and rightly so, I have no problem with that.

Think rice is a fantastic player. However last night I saw what alot of others did, no out ball for the defenders, which as England's deepest lying midfielder is more on him than anybody else. Bellingham is impossible to drop, and I think Henderson, painful as it is to say, merits his spot for his leadership. Perhaps Phillips would offer a better link into midfield. I'm not sure we will get away with being so ponderous with the ball at the back as we were for half an hour against Senegal on Saturday.
