I think he meant to say that he clearly comes across as a simpleton to the players

I disagree. He hasn't been nearly as bad as some are trying to make out, but still not doing enough. Southgate could easily say they want a right-footed player over there to be able to cut inside/hold the width, etc.

Hope the rumour that he’s picking Trippier ahead of Alexander-Arnold at right wing-back isn’t true. Seems like a typically over-cautious decision.
