Enjoy your Napoli Trip

Out of interest, how many blues will be going? we have a big allocation, but with lots of 'go to napoli and die' posts on here and elsewhere, a few may have been put off. Flights and hotels have been fairly cheap to come by if travelling independently, possibly much cheaper to get to than the Munich game. We had over 2000 at Poznan, 3000 at munich, sold out at villareal, less than 1000 at aris. Napoli is a big game for us - but hard to call on how many will be there. I would guess at a respectful 1400.

Hi Everybody,

Quick introduction, even if my nickname says it all. I am a guy from Napoli and of course supporing Napoli football club, I don't have much to say about Napoli, as Pete already said enough on it. However if any of you needs suggestions on places and stuff, feel free to ask me and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible, no charges it's free :)

I want to clarify something.

TRAIN STATION ISSUE

Piazza Garibaldi (Train Station):

- During the day is a normal place, it is very busy: students, flea markets, workers and so on. So don't be scared all the time.

However, just keep your eyes open to the following situations:

Sometime there could be some con man who try to sell you iPhones, Laptop, Cameras and all the latest technologies of the moment: don't even think that it could be a good deal, remember nobody makes you gifts down streets, well except in few cases like Mario Balotelli... ;) These con mans try to rip off Neapolitans as well not only turists, it's their job, if they'll approach you keep walking don't try to reason with them.

You may also see people playing cards or other table games: don't even think to stop and just watch, somehow they will involve you in game and makes you bet some money (Once they got me, when I was a teenager, lost 20 euro), usually these guys are sourrounded by a bunch of people, which are betting good money, they are just part of the scam.

- During the night, the area becomes a little bit dodgy.

There are prostitutes around the main square (Garibaldi Statue, a couple of hundred meters away from the train station entrance) asking you for a "quickie", of course they have their pimps somewhere nearby, don't mess with them too much as they have to work :)

Inside/Outside the train station there is a McDonald (opened till 21-22 pm) which is supervised by private guards (Equivalent of the british G4S), then inside the train station there is also a Police Station, always operative. These two places just mentioned, could be a good meeting point when it's dark, well I don't mean to enter in the police station but just stand outside, there are always cops chatting there :)

PUB ISSUE:

If you want to go in a pub, I strongly suggest you to go around "Vomero" area, that's where I use to go, there are several pubs. This is the "posh" area of the city (few Napoli players are living there).
If you go to this area called 'Vomero', you could go to Castel Sant'Elmo. There is a beautiful view of the city, it will take your breath away, nice facebook pictures there ;)

GOOD & SAFE HOTEL AREAS

If you still haven't book for a room, and you are looking for something cheap and safe you could also check the following town which is located in the hiterland of Napoli but well connected with a new metro and train station, this town is Aversa. There are trains from Rome to Aversa. This town is just 4 train stops away from Napoli main train station and now they also made a new subway which leads straight into the city center of Napoli.

Note that in the province of Napoli supporters are not fanatic as the city. The province don't have all these ultras groups as described by Pete.

So far Pub and Train Station Area, seemed to be the main topic, that is why I wrote only on that, updates will follow...

Good night :)

@Neapoli7....Thanks for coming on my friend, you have been a great help. Please keep coming back because I'm sure there will be more questions. Is the new subway station for Via Toledo open yet? If yes where is it connected to?
Ciao Pete

Hi russh, we are now booked onto the same flights as you, BA's prices went up by nearly £50 since yesterday :o(

See you in the bar at Gatwick!

Hi guys,
enjoy your trip in Naples.
I am from Naples and, generally speaking, never had problems when staying in the city centre... just watch your butt...avoid going out at night on your own or in small groups.

Enjoy a great quality for the price pizza lunch in the historical centre "Centro Storico"... loads of pizzerias there.
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.pizzeriadimatteo.it/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">www.pizzeriadimatteo.it/</a>
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.pizzeriatrianon.it/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">www.pizzeriatrianon.it/</a>
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.ilpizzaiolodelpresidente.it/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">www.ilpizzaiolodelpresidente.it/</a>

Or if you want to eat by the sea you can find pizzerias/restaurants in "Borgo Marinari" or just across the main streets "Via Partenope" and "Via Caracciolo"
<a class="postlink" href="http://maps.google.it/maps?q=borgo+marinari&oe=utf-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=it&sa=N&tab=wl" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://maps.google.it/maps?q=borgo+mari ... a=N&tab=wl</a>

Don't miss a walk by the sea and the panorama from San Martino castle or from the Sant'Antonio Church in Posillipo.

Someone asked for pub area.... but most of them are only opened from 20:00.
This is one quite close to the stadium.
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.babettegroup.it/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">www.babettegroup.it/</a>
Otherwise there are some in "Via Bausan" and the closeby "Via Martucci"
<a class="postlink" href="http://maps.google.it/maps?q=via+bausan&oe=utf-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=it&sa=N&tab=wl" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://maps.google.it/maps?q=via+bausan ... a=N&tab=wl</a>

..and this is a nice video uploaded from an english guy visiting Naples and watching the most exciting game of the past season.
