Enjoy your Napoli Trip

Out of interest, how many blues will be going? we have a big allocation, but with lots of 'go to napoli and die' posts on here and elsewhere, a few may have been put off. Flights and hotels have been fairly cheap to come by if travelling independently, possibly much cheaper to get to than the Munich game. We had over 2000 at Poznan, 3000 at munich, sold out at villareal, less than 1000 at aris. Napoli is a big game for us - but hard to call on how many will be there. I would guess at a respectful 1400.

Yeah I would say between 1000 -1400

@Neapoli7....Thanks for coming on my friend, you have been a great help. Please keep coming back because I'm sure there will be more questions. Is the new subway station for Via Toledo open yet? If yes where is it connected to?
Ciao Pete

The subway in Via Toledo is still under construction as they have found archeological finds of the roman age, so it will take a little bit more than the usual to finish it.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

When you get in main train station (Stazione Garibaldi) you can take the bus 'R2' which leads to the main square of the city 'Piazza del Plebiscito' (city center), it is the last stop and it will take about 10 - 15 minutes (Keep your wallets in the front pockets when the bus is packed of people, you never know...).
As soon as you go out of the station, walk toward Garibaldi's statue (150 meters away, there is the end line of the route and also the first stop right behind Garibaldi's statue) and then ask for the 'R2' bus stop, usually these buses are orange, in particular the R2 sometime has a sort of a "squeeze-box" shape (In italy the bus is called 'Pullman' or 'Poolman').

This is the R2 bus:

HOW TO GET TO SAN PAOLO STADIUM BY SUBWAY

From Garibaldi Train Station to San Paolo stadium, you can use the subway. You don't need to get out from the station just take the escalators nearby the gates. Once you are in the subway take the line 2 (Linea 2) POZZUOLI DIRECTION. The stop for the sadium is 'Campi Flegrei'.
Here is subway map:

HOW TO GET TO SAN PAOLO STADIUM BY BUS

Go to Garibaldi Square and take the bus number 151 and get off untill you'll see the stadium :) it is big enough to recognise it.
Here is the bus stop:
<a class="postlink" href="http://maps.google.it/maps?saddr=Piazza+Giuseppe+Garibaldi&daddr=Piazza+Garibaldi,+9,+80142+Napoli+(Una+Hotel+Napoli" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://maps.google.it/maps?saddr=Piazza ... tel+Napoli</a>)&hl=it&sll=40.852311,14.268558&sspn=0.001647,0.003449&geocode=FaxabwId2rTZAA%3BFXRZbwIdI7XZACFWEIyMlxZakQ&vpsrc=0&mra=mift&mrsp=0&sz=18&t=h&z=18

I recommend to get the subway, it is way quicker (15 minutes or even less), the bus will take around 30 minutes or even more if there will be traffic, and believe me the traffic will drive you crazy there.

FOOD

If you want to eat the best Pizza of the world, you have to go in the oldest pizzeria of Napoli, so that means the oldest pizzeria of the world: Da Michele.
This place is close to Garibaldi's Statue, it is on the 'Corso Umberto I', there are loads of shops there.
I strongly suggest to the ones who reside around Garibaldi area, you can eat a pizza in this place called Pizzeria Da Michele, you won't experience another good pizza as Da Michele's one. You have to go around lunch time (12:30) otherwise there will be a long queue. Go inside and ask a ticket to the cashier, then wait for your turn just outside, there will be a waiter calling your ticket number. The maxium you can pay is 5,50 euro (Pizza + Beer [only peroni]), you won't get any special pizza such as peperoni or stuff like this, the only pizzas available are Margherita and Marinara, best ever!!!
Here is the way from Garibaldi square to the pizzeria:
<a class="postlink" href="http://maps.google.ie/maps?saddr=Piazza+Giuseppe+Garibaldi&daddr=Via+Pietro+Colletta&hl=en&ll=40.851151,14.268365&spn=0.006119,0.013797&sll=40.852579,14.269706&sspn=0.003059,0.006899&geocode=FeVabwIdi7vZAA%3BFXpQbwIdCKXZAA&vpsrc=6&mra=me&mrsp=0,1&sz=17&t=h&z=16" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://maps.google.ie/maps?saddr=Piazza ... 7&t=h&z=16</a>

If you need more info about something else, just reply here or send me a PM.

If you have time why not pop down to Palermo and check this place out

Hi all
also travelling on the EJ flight from Gatwick at 07.15am. Driving from near Woking, Surrey to the airport. Anyone wanting to share airport parking costs please let me know.
Then arrival at Naples and staying at Best Western hotel, again anyone wanting to share cost of travel from airport to hotel please get in touch.
thanks
There are 5-6 Best western's in Napoli can you say which one?
Hi Pete

Thanks for all the information about Napoli.

I am staying in the Best Western Plaza I believe is not far from the train station. Whats it going to be like after the game getting from the train station where the police are dropping us off to the hotel?

I don't think there will be a problem as no doubt there will be a huge police prescence at your drop off points. Also this square is a wash with taxis so its worth getting one if your hotel is not in view of the police...This area is most dangerous in the lead up to the match...the night before being the worst time....although 2 Bayern fans were attacked near the stadium on matchday. just be careful...but not paranoid...remember the Germans had a great time as did the liverpool fans...its just a few that were caught out in the wrong area...but most of you are now well aware of possible flashpoints and will act accordingly.
As an analogy...if you were going to Millwall you would take a drink at Waterloo or maybe Covent Garden...you wouldn't have a drink down The Old kent Road...You're all street savvy in England so you just gotta take this outlook to Napoli. Have a great time.

Hi Pete,
we are all being directed to the 'Stazione Marrittima' port area. Couple of questions for you;
1;The area around there seems huge so is there any particular spot with plenty of bars (or cafe bars as you call them) to head for as a meeting point.
2; Dont fancy being herded onto a bus to be taken to the ground hours before - do you know the low down with this? is that likely to happen? when this has been advised before we have all avoided the meeting point!!!
3. is it possible to get the tube / metro from the port to the ground?
Cheers in advance

@Bainy...OK I am sure there is the odd bar down at the port area. If you want to make your own way to the ground via Metro here are some ideas.
If you are meeting people walk up past the huge castle (keep on road with castle to your immediate left). The road will take you in between the San Carlo opera house and the Galleria. Pop into the Galleria and meet up under the huge dome. Now exit the passageway where there is a little cake kiosk at the entrance (Mary's) you are now in Via Toledo.
All of this will take about 5 minutes.
1)This is a pretty safe area....you can hunt this area for bars. If you stay in this area here's how to get to the ground:
Walk north (away from seafront) up Via Toledo to Piazza Carita. There is a small turning off the square (or ask a local for Via Pignasecca pronounce vEE-ah peen-yah-secka)...Every Neapolitan knows this street. Walk up VP and you will come to Montesanto station. Buy 2 ticket (1.60each) 1 for the out and 1 for return journey (YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BUY A TICKET AFTER GAME)
.The train will stop at either Campi Flegrei or Mostra and is minutes away.
2) An even safer area is up on the Vomero...so starting from the Galleria go into Via Toledo. Cross the road. You will see a bunch of cafes. A funicular station is here Funicolare Centrale (pronounce foo-nee-co-lar-ray chen-tra-lay). Buy 4 tickets. Go up the funicular to the Vomero and head for the area Piazza Vanivitelli (1 minute walk). Have your fun then go to the game. Catch a different funicular down (its yards away from where you arrived) this funicular is called Cimarosa and get off at the last stop this is called Amedeo. Outside you will find Amedeo metro. Jump on any train marked 'Pozzuoli' and you are 3 stops from Campi Flegrei. (the ground)
3) You could go for a drink in Mergellina. Follow exact instructions for 2). At Amedeo metro get Pozzuoli train and go 1 stop to Mergellina. Walk down the hill to the bars. After you've done your bit walk back to station. Get on Pozzuoli train and you are 2 stops from Campi Flegrei (ground)

Getting back home.... if you want to get back to port area use Campi Flegrei....get Gianturco train. This stops at both Montesanto (for port area) and Piazza Garibaldi.

You shouldnt get hassle on the train but when you come out of Campi Flegrei you will see the stadium 200 yards or so away. The bit you see is Curva A home to their nutters so dont start singing and waving flags. You could pass wide of this area (to the right)and do a complete revolution of the stadium but you will have to pass Curva B. Although this is home to Ultras Napoli and Fedayn they are much more fan friendly to foreigners and actually escorted some lost scousers to the away section. A big group coming out of the station is very noticeable so mingle with the locals in couples but keep each other in view.

If you've been to away games in England in the 70 and 80 you know how to behave right?? The safest option is always to the coaches. Also their culture is very different to ours. 3 sides of the stadium will be packed upto 2 hours before kick off so there is nowt wrong with getting there early to enjoy a great build up. The entrance you are after is for the Settore Ospiti and i think you have the gate number (is it 33?)

Bainy I'm not sure where you are staying but if you are in P. Garibaldi the metro is down stairs on the left as you face the main station.

The biggest tip I can give you is to get hold of a leaflet from your hotel or a tourist info bureau called Gira Napoli Unico. This will show you the metro layout and all the sh*t I've just written will make sense...(a picture is worth a 1000 words)
I'm out there Saturday...gonna take in Lazio game and the City game. If you wander up Via Pignasecca then FFS pop into Da Attilio's for some gob smacking grub!!!

I'll post some last minute tips for all city fans before i go...STAY SAFE

ps I'm sure they are gonna declare it an acohol free day. so Vomero and Mergellina maybe your best bets for a shant

Details of public transport and the dedicated shuttle service to the game can be found here http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/your-trip/travellingfans1/napolivmancity

There's a couple of telephone numbers - one is at the top on the right hand-side column and another out of office number at the bottom of the information. Can I suggest you store them in your phone (hopefully you won't use them) but just to be on the safe side and should anything happen.

Hi Pete

Thanks for the info. Could you clarify how the "alcohol free day" works" ?
Presumably it isnt a blanket ban if it doesnt apply to Vomero or Mergellina? If a load of City fans decided to meet up in these areas could they extend the ban?

Does it just apply to bars eg could you have a drink in a restaurant with a meal?

Thanks

Cibaman I'm just not sure how an 'alcohol free day' works, but clearly it is a ban on retailers selling the stuff. They declared it for Liverpool. The local rag reported that many scousers were down at the port drinking tinnies..where they got them I don't know (purchased day before???).

I would think it would be a blanket ban...very easy to enforce around Via Toledo, Piazza Garibaldi and the Centro storico..but I may be wrong that there will be a ban.

I plug the Vomero as you have to get the funicular up there and it is not any area renowned for Ultras....same applies for Mergellina...both areas are remote from the more fanatical areas. So I would imagine you may drink with a meal..the bar owner may invite you in so you are not on view...you'll really have to suck it and see.

I don't think at this time such a state of affairs has been declared for you yet...it may have just been for the Scousers. They were certainly drinking the night before (thats when the aggro happened)...so it may pay to stock up beforehand.

But I'm sure if they are going to do it an announcement will be made prior to take off. It's worth noting that Liverpool have a reputation in Italy following Heysel, even though all the Scousers I met were thoroughly decent and only wanted a good time...I guess sometimes shit sticks and people never forget
