If you're right, I'm starting to wonder what Txiki's doing. Osvaldo and Negredo? We should aim higher than that if we are to compete in both the PL and go through to the final stages in CL.

To be honest, I don't think Txiki and Pellegrini believe in the "four world class strikers" type setup. They probably think more along the lines of "build the front line around Aguero and sign good target men to support him with more emphasis on support/service from midfield" (a bit long-winded but...).

As you've said previously though, we need some guaranteed goals from midfield for that to work. Which we haven't got at the minute . If only Reus was remotely feasible

Goals from midfield is my concern in a one striker system though. If we play a target man alongside Aguero, which seems likely if we shell out £30million+ on two new strikers, then that extra striker should help make up for the lack of goals from midfield.

lamela is one of the best youngsters in world football. We'd be very lucky to get him. However, he does primarily play from the RW for Roma, which we've obviously filled now with Navas, who is top drawer. but he is, as was said, versatile. would love to get him. great in the air as well.

The meeting was about Osvaldo and Gazzetta reported City have made a bid for him. No mention of Lamela or Marquinhos despite the hopes of fans.

Mancinis words" id never heard of this sorriano man i think he worked for some airline before getting the job." Ha ha at least he will know his way around the airports if nothing else.

This is what we should have been looking at from the get go, goal scoring midfielders. Every good team has an entire forward line capable of scoring goals. At the moment we still only really have strikers. I was really happy to see us finally get Tevez off the books because I thought it would pave the way for a genuinely top class goal scoring left forward - I've obviously no idea if we have any on the table but going balls deep for Negredo and Osvaldo would suggest possibly not. I think also with the sheer amount we're uprooting the team we're at breaking point for how many changes you can make and still realistically expect to win anything.

If we lined up with a front line of Aguero, Navas and Silva/Nasri, the opposition would only have to mark Aguero out of the game and we'de be fucked!

We need a Robben/Ribery/Pedro/Villa/Ronaldo/Bale/Hazard type player above absolutely all others IMO.

Two of these things aren't like the others, two of these things don't belong...

But aside from that, I mostly agree with you. Although, I think we need a CAM that can finish, not another winger (I have said many times that if the Silva of 11/12 could also finish he would be one of the top five players in the world). Navas brings what we were lacking with speed and directness. And who knows, perhaps Sinclair will come good (wishful thinking). But what we lack is that Lampard factor right now as Yaya has gone off the boil and Barry, Milner, and Garcia are not goal-scoring midfielders. Perhaps Fernandinho and/or Rodwell will grow into that role (especially the latter) but that is for the future.

Nasri under Pelle to the rescue? ;-)

Why don't they belong? Both played wide forward either side of Messi in what was one of Barcelona's best attacking trios, both scored goals, both would bring what we don't have in this team (still! for what could be 4 bloody seasons now!), pace and goal threat from somewhere other than straight up the middle with Aguero. On the subject of which you could add Sanchez to that list as well. I was really hoping one of them, especially Pedro or Sanchez, would be ripe for nicking this summer with the arrival of Neymar.

As the days roll by and our other attacking targets come to the fore, I find myself placing more and more hope on Nasri as our goal scoring midfielder. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not, as another common factor of my list is everyone of those players is about twice as fast as Nasri, but the guy's got serious skills and is probably one of the best finishers we've got. The the question comes back to one of last seasons problems, can we afford Nasri and Silva in the same team?

We went for Sanchez and failed, then Hazard and failed. Someone somewhere knows we need this type of player. Navas is not this type of player no matter how much hope people are placing on him tearing other teams fullbacks new arseholes. Lamela definitely is and would be one of the best additions of the summer. Instead it's looking like we could travel to Rome and come back with Osvaldo..

Lamela can play almost everywhere, for River Plate he played mostly as LM/LW but in the youth squads he has always been CAM or SS; now he plays on the right in Roma.

I would like us to sign Lamela, but we do actually have goalscoring midfielders. For some reason they aren't scoring enough. If the same thing afflicted Lamela, then he wouldn't score so many either.

We should be getting much more goals from Silva & Nasri as they are reaching their peaks, rather than less, as is the case currently.
