The commentary I had described De Jong as "one of the least favourite City players, according to the fans".

That was Twellman. I've expressed my feelings regarding him several times.

They referred to Johnson as Milner before Milner even came on the pitch and said de Jong was unpopular.

Yea...I heard that too. He obviously meant by fans of other teams...but sounded like the idiot he is by saying that City fans don't like DeJong.


Also, you guys have to remember that these ESPN guys are catering to the America who doesn't like football, but is giving it a chance. They're not catering to people who already like the sport, cause we'll watch anyway. At the end of the day soccer/football in the US, while more popular than it used to be by a lot, is still the #5 team sport in the country.

I have to say I quite enjoyed the commentary from laughing at their expense but I couldn't take 1 more game of it.

Some classics that were repeated over and over.

"The Belgian Vincent Kompany"
"The veteran Savic"
"The 30 year old Gareth Barry"
"The England No. 1 Joe Hart"

I am sure the list could go on and on.

the 4 letter (espn) is a fucking joke... I have boycotted them recently. They steal stories from other websites, have the worst commentators ever like this thread is about, and most of theyre best writers have left for yahoo, mlb network, FOXsports, ect.... I will be extremlely upset if espn ends up with the premier league rights here, Fox Soccer Channel is really great, goltv....kind of shitty

Isn't that the North American term for the goal in ice hockey?

It's a North American slang word for goal in ice hockey. Usually used when a player goes sliding into the goal. Not for when someone actually scores a goal.

I'm sorry you guys had to listen to our commentators, they're awful.

I meant THE goal, not A goal, hence writing 'the goal' in my original post.

One thing that caught my attention was how much they base appearences on how good the player is. Shit like "Gareth Barry with over 300 appearances" etc. They were going on about him like he was the second coming because he has over 300 appearences in the league.
