Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

Absolutely fuck all to with the stadium configuration.

This is a people problem. In order to get the insane atmosphere shown in the San Siro we need a change of mindset. A certain amount of boisterous behaviour would need to be tolerated.

I seem to remember that when we were greeting the team bus at Mary D's at the end of last season you posted that you hoped we didn't drop any litter! It's this kind of priggish disapproval from theorists like yourself that's lead to the sanitised atmosphere at English football grounds.
No it isn’t. Disapproving of littering has no association with the sanitisation of football, whatsoever.

And I didn’t hope they didn’t drop litter, I moaned that they did drop litter. Got a mate who lives up near the ground who said the roads were a shit tip after the first get together. Littering is a cunty thing to do. Anyone who drops litter or fly tips is a fucking scruffy **** who should be publicly flogged. Anyone participating or accepting the attempts to make our city look like Ferentari says more about those idiots than it does people like me.

But that’s a completely separate issue to atmosphere. Singing at the footy is great. Bounce about like a loon, singing shouting swearing, giving shit to away fans, away team, away manager and the officials, getting behind the team, jumping into and over mates when we score causing mayhem in the stands, waving flags scarves and banners, singing and shouting until you lose your voice… dropping litter isn’t one of the byproducts of that.

We need a few new chants that can repeat repeat, like the laporte song. When our singing fails it is when we sing short 20 second bursts. The song gets going and by that time people stop singing it, also by the time middle % front have heard the back of 115 singing, the song has died. The laporte for example carried on and on so people kept going on joined in.
Sat behind the nets a couple of times last season and "BernaDo ah ah" song was on repeat all the match...so rousing I joined in

up in 318 and along the level 3 ss,it was shite as usual
the odd chant but quiet as per norm

from what other people are saying about a great atmosphere at kick off
they must have a silencer or summert up where i'am
i cant believe that people are saying that it was good
it was shite
Sorry I disagree with you s3 was bouncing in 315 you must have had mufflers on
tottenham vs Norwich. The atmosphere would be no where near as good..

the huge difference between our stadium and spurs is that they have a proper home end. If the atmosphere gets going the whole stand join in.

what we currently have is rubbish. A few blocks separated by away fans and three separate tiers with a corporate section in the middle - terrible idea

we need a proper home end to be created when we expand. It might not suddenly create a good atmosphere, but it would mean all singers in one place.
fucking spot on

The atmosphere was great today I'm not sure what people want. I'm in SS level one and more people were singing than usual. It went a bit quiet at 2-0 as Norwich were just in damage limitation mode and we were happy to keep possession and be patient and probe for more goals.

I'm trying to think of any ground in this country where fans sing all game and I can't. Palace have that corner where they've created a kind of ultra section but that's about it.

We are usually so good these days that we watch the football and probably don't think we need to urge them on too much like we did when we weren't so good. It is what it is and like people leaving early will never change so people need to stop moaning. I didn't see that many going early either. I understand why some do that as well. If you're on public transport leaving a few minutes early can be the difference between catching an ongoing connection or being stuck usually in the cold and rain waiting an hour for your bus home. No fun I can assure you.
I left at full time and live in Gateshead. Managed a pint at Piccadilly station plus Sainsbury’s carry out and I’m 65. Too many snowflakes around these days

I think this is wrong. Those long, clap-along concourse songs, like the Laporte song, the Dzeko one, the empty seats one and the Bernado one are only ever sung by the singing section and very rarely spread. It's the classic anthems that spread as long as they are loud enough to start with. That's why having two singing sections doing their own thing is counter-productive.

To be fair if you're travelling a long distance it makes little difference to you. I know because I used to travel probably further, to Dover in Kent for five years. I knew I wasn't getting home until around midnight so I was in no hurry. There is a world of difference between taking your time in a nice warm and dry train station and relaxing on a train, than stressing on a crowded metro and missing your bus home by minutes, meaning you to hang around in the cold waiting an hour for the next one. Add on putting up with the gangs of teenagers and drunks that hang about these places in the evening and it isn't a pleasant experience. Each to their own though. I've endured delays, frustration and dickheads and carry on regardless. If I had a choice though I'd prefer not to.

It has changed, but overall I don’t think it’s that different from other clubs. Yes we’ve got more families going and older fans, but we still have a core of about 45,000. Made up of greater Manchester fans

this image is mainly males, with lots of people in their 20s/ 30s. A reflection of the south stand. Our match day support is nothing like United or Liverpool for example who have way more tourists and glory hunters

Great picture in that tweet.

Here's another one that says it all really comparing LIverpool and Everton.

That's one weird second paragraph.

The reason English grounds lack atmosphere relates directly to the gentrification of the game by middle class tossers who fail to understand the tribal nature of the game.
