Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

fair enough that on a few points...

I think only arsenal equal us the the arrive late, leave early and a half time beer on 35 mins ! It does effect how we are portrayed.

I dont know how it will change, lots of replies are "i paid, i dont give a fuck and will leave when i want"... Helps a lot that !
It's an odd one when a pint of gnats piss is more appealing than the chance on missing out on seeing us score in real time.

Why?

Hypothetic scenario. Two clubs with a similar chance of winning things, paying similar amounts, offering you a similar importance to the team.

One has fans who stay to the end and cheer the team off, one has a large volume who leave around 80 minutes because beating the traffic is more important.

Who do you pick?

Could be either, and yes it's a daft comparison, but for some it might just swing things. To the untrained observer, who doesn't know our past, what we've been through, how shit the transport around the stadium is - it may just look like we don't give a shit.

Late 90s, once we got over how shit the team was, we got behind what was a mediocre team and helped push them to promotions.

When we were going for out 1st recent title, the media team did a great job of pushing #together - this helped stop us getting on the players backs if things were going wrong. We stuck behind them, supported them and helped them to the title. Small margins mattered and I am fairly sure the fans made at least a points difference.

Now though? Pushing for a winner in an evening game? Yeah, some get behind the team. Lots do in fact, but lots have left early.

It's a shame it's got to this. I k ow everyone has their reasons, but I don't think it helps us in any way, and I don't know how that gets changed back.
It does feel a bit embarrassing each time it happens.

Fair enough if City are 3-0 up ... but when a game is close or a draw & the players need one last rousing push over the line ... and then hundreds of people start standing up & walking out ... must be a bit of a dampener for the players.

But agree that the transport & congestion is terrible ... I drive & it's taking me longer each season to get away.
Put it this way ... I went to City's game at Burnley recently, parked in a multi-storey in Burnley Town centre ... and after the game I was home earlier than I ever am from the Etihad. And I live 15 miles from the Etihad.

I works both ways, the players and manager kept as far away from the fans as possible in Porto after the final.

Great post. There’s a reason some grounds are tougher to play in than others. Fan support can really carry a team and intimidate the opponents.

“We fight to the end” was a big thing for the club and the fans about ten years ago. It was a big chant in the 2011-12 title run-in and was something we chanted for years after it (of course, we don’t chant it anymore because we rarely chant anything uplifting to get the team going).

When we thumped the Rags 1-6 and they all left early, and then they beat us in the FA Cup and were 0-3 up at half time; we were chanting “we stay til the end, we stay til the end, we’re Man City, we stay til the end” at them as the whole stadium stayed and didn’t desert the team despite them hammering us at home.

What is it people all need to get home for? Why is it a problem that people get home later than if we leave the game early? Nothing happens to them if they get home a bit later. I bet loads of these Cinderellas have hours-and-hours sat at home bored thinking about the match, but then strangely leave the match early to go to the place where they’re bored.

Probably better to accept that this is the way it is and pretty much always has been. It doesn’t seem to affect the players and most have stayed with us for years. When the need is there like Liverpool, the atmosphere is good and more people stay
I agree with this to a certain degree. Yes the atmosphere often is crap and the early leavers are a joke, I was desperate for the final whistle to blow on Wednesday night because I was worried there might only be me left. However, I think some of us are falling into the trap of thinking the atmosphere at places like Anfield and Old Trafford is bouncing every week. More often than not they’re stadiums are every bit as dead as ours and on the odd occasion they do get it going, it’s no better than our place on the odd occasions we get it going, unfortunately we don’t have a sycophantic media fawning all over us.
I do agree with with a lot of posters that the songs need sorting out though.

Early leaving has been a city thing as long as I can remember. It is strange but it’s a habit that people get into and as they are making parking near the ground almost impossible going forward, it could actually get worse. I’m not sure what the answer to that is. The infastructure needs sorting more than anything. For a so called developed country and major city it is diabolical. The trains are a joke, the trams are a joke, the roads are a joke and the buses are a joke. I can see why some people have completely knocked it on the head. We need to find a way of getting people too and from the ground. Even if City pay for coaches/buses or additional trams. Whatever the solution is, someone needs to find it and implement it.

Madrid semi final in 2016 was the worst thing I've been to when it comes to "bring the noise". CL semi final, all we needed was one goal to take it to extra time and potentially a CL final against Atletico and there was as much noise in the 2nd half as your regular PL game in November. Old Trafford and Anfield are not bouncing all the time, but that would never happen in any PL ground ever. Also, the excuses I've seen on this thread are incredible. However, it Doesn't matter too much anyway, our players won the league with ease without the fans for most of the season.
