Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

Banning fireworks & airhorns doesn't help. Or narcotics, as with these if you take enough you will think that the atmosphere is great.

I think after every goal they should blast the Russ Abbot song "atmosphere", that would get things bouncing.

Gotta say and as much as I hate them the Spurs fans made a lot of noise last week. Used to be the same in the old ground as well.
Spurs have always had the best atmosphere in London over the years. I don’t like Spurs at all, but definitely give them that.

The atmosphere was great today I'm not sure what people want. I'm in SS level one and more people were singing than usual. It went a bit quiet at 2-0 as Norwich were just in damage limitation mode and we were happy to keep possession and be patient and probe for more goals.

I'm trying to think of any ground in this country where fans sing all game and I can't. Palace have that corner where they've created a kind of ultra section but that's about it.

We are usually so good these days that we watch the football and probably don't think we need to urge them on too much like we did when we weren't so good. It is what it is and like people leaving early will never change so people need to stop moaning. I didn't see that many going early either. I understand why some do that as well. If you're on public transport leaving a few minutes early can be the difference between catching an ongoing connection or being stuck usually in the cold and rain waiting an hour for your bus home. No fun I can assure you.
When you’re in the area that creates the atmosphere, it always sounds good when that area is particularly vocal.

SSL1 were good. Then 109-111 were good, with splashes of people dotted about here and there.

The rest of the ground was awful. And, as always, there aren’t enough people in 109-111 and SSL1 to make it sound like it’s a good atmosphere in the whole stadium. Just far too small those areas.

Having a good atmosphere at City sounds like having a good set of away fans in. Good in our small pockets of vocal fans that we have, but the general atmosphere of the Etihad Stadium is poor.

Yesterday, I’d describe the atmosphere across the stadium as ‘not bad’. 4/10

And atmosphere isn’t just about singing, certainly not singing all game. The atmosphere at Palace is poor, they’ve got a little corner where a few hundred band geeks sing all game but the other 95% in their ground are silent.

We had a great atmosphere against Liverpool in January 2019 where we hardly sang any songs all game. We sang at the start, sang after each goal, and sang at the end… but other than that we barely sang at all, but it was just an atmosphere where everyone in the ground was involved in the game.

I sat away from the singing areas and it wasn’t a bad atmosphere for much of the game. It suffered from the usual problems where the songs started in the 111 area didn’t “catch on” around the ground, and then the singing areas did too many of the clap along concourse songs which never catch on. But whenever there was a “proper” City song it spread around the ground well.

Had a tourist sat next to me yesterday, he didn’t even get up off his fat arse when we scored. I gave him some encouragement when Grealish scored and he managed a tilted head gentle clap the absolute drip.

Unfortunately our stadium is just not conducive to a great atmosphere. The tiers and the fact that the distance from the first row of tier two to the other side of the pitch is massive is a problem. I would love a brand new stadium like Spurs if I am honest. One designed with atmosphere in mind.

It was decent yesterday, for a walk in the park against Norwich. One thing I did hear about 5 times was grumpy twats talking about “day trippers or there’s gonna be no real fans here today will all be there first game, even bet they didn’t go to Maine road” Do you think your super fans and nobody should ever come to the football again we’ll be screwed in ten years when you hang up your matchday boots.

I’ve banged on about this for years. The biggest problem we have is having two singing areas. If both those blocks were together, there would be miles more singing around the ground.

I was up above the away fans in the 3rd tier. Thought the atmosphere was good up there with some quiet spells, which is expected with the game being comfortable.

It's out first big game of the season next week against Arsenal. They should bring 3000 fans. And after yesterdaya win, tickets should fly out. The only slight issue is a 12-30 kick off which doesn't help the atmosphere.

It’s alright when the whole ground is up for it.

But when they aren’t, the stadium set-up is an issue.

When it’s just our little vocal areas that have to try and make noise for ten times their amount of people, with them being trapped in a small tier between the away fans and the Colin Bell stand and under a corporate section… the set-up isn’t conducive for an atmosphere.

Our vocal section is probably in the #1 worst place it could possibly be in, in the stadium. Other areas of the ground don’t quite hear what they’re singing sometimes, other times the away fans are also singing and are just as loud, other times they’ve finished singing by the time the rest of the ground join in.

But the biggest issue is the rest of the ground not being up for it. Some grounds have one main stand, a stand of the more quiet and boring fans. At City we’ve developed 3 ½ main stands and a small vocal section. The small vocal section need some fucking help from the rest!
