Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

I know the difficulties you've had fella. The club are the ones who missed the trick when they opened the new upper tier. Anyway, things are taking care of themselves now and things are a lot better.

got it right, it messed all our plans up at 1894 when we did our first season in block 115 just as club released cheap tickets for SS3.. But fair play to the club, they back us up no end and fans wanted cheap tickets.

JRB is correct, displays dont sing but flags & banners get it going, it works hand in hand. Unfortunately these days visual is just as important as noise, to get recognised you need colour and madness !

There are many benefits of lower tier to upper tier for singers & displays, all have been mentioned in earlier posts.

I bet you agree and JRB to, it all boils down to the north stand expansion, this time its all about getting it right. Soon we will have meetings with the club about what creates better atmosphere / safe stand / banner hanging / cheaper tickets. Somewhere between that lot and a first class champagne bar we can meet !!

For now though we plead with fans, keep building the atmosphere, get involved with displays, help out, help to stamp out the very few fans that seem to abuse or complain on a match day. Hopefully in 2 or 3 seasons we have a new north stand, we all just move in there ready for it and be like our beloved team "best in the country", Singing is now spreading nicely right across all the safestand areas.

I tried Value Gold this year but way too quiet (although at amazing value) up in East. Il definitely try to move to SSL3 next season.
a few fans have come down from SS3 and other areas into 115, they have said the atmosphere is far crazier and louder, there are more fans together who are alike and the sfaestanding helps.

I think the rest of our supporters should be grateful we have people like yourselves putting money, time and effort into trying to improve the atmosphere.
Well done!

The noise within is louder but it doesn't travel as well as SS3 because of the roof structure which helps carry it. That's why the NS has to be seen as the place for singing fans. Get a huge tier going where it gets the benefit of the roof keeping noise in, you can have the banners etc across the lower blocks of it and safe standing and it ticks all the boxes.

But it's a lot longer to walk to from Mary D's! Much as I would like it to happen, City's singing/atmosphere has always been close to the away fans. Can't really see that changing even with the new stand.

Their four drums were louder than their chants.

Christ how fucking shit would it have sounded if we’d also had drums? They had four, how many would we need, six? Imagine ten drums drumming out two different sets of beats right next to each other for 90 minutes… the rest of the stadium would walk out.

It’d be like listening to the Foo Fighters and The Who on the same stage singing different songs through the same speakers.
I went to see the Pogues at Barrowlands in Glasgow a long time ago. That sounded like two bands singing different songs. One was most of the band with one song, the other was Shane McGowan, pissed out if his brain, singing something very different.

Any person who brings a musical instrument into a ground wants shooting. Same goes for those bloody cardboard clappers. And don't get me started on vuvu-bloody-zelas.

Saw the Pogues at Ardwick Apollo in the 90s McGowan so stoned he could barely stand never mind sing.

I was there on the second night. He walked on stage with a large bottle of something in one hand and got carried off by his band mates after about 4 songs Love the Pogues music but walked out soon after and went to the 32 club opposite for a few scoops instead.

As bad as it gets tonight. Worst case scenario. Dull fixture. Dull game. Away fans making an incessant din with a drum.

The first few minutes set the tone as always. The two singing areas couldn’t hear each other so could barely get a decent chant going. The rest of the stadium take their lead from these sections and if they don’t start singing early crowd psychology kicks in and they won’t sing for the rest of the game. The singing ends can’t out sing the drone from the away fans on their own when there’s only a couple of hundred singing in each so they mainly give up too, just waiting for occasional pauses. Even when that happens it doesn’t really catch on because most of the rest of the stadium gave up after 5 minutes. It’s a vicious circle which regularly happens in group games.

No big deal. It will be much better in bigger games but at the risk of sounding like a stuck record, it is these lower key games which would be much better without a split singing section.

Games like this where without being arrogant you're expecting 4/5-0 combined with the awful weather and a very loud drum to compete with, its never going to be overly lively. it's a just get the job done game for the players and that translates to the stands. Not a big deal, you get these games at every top club at this stage. the group stages are almost a sideshow for the tourists now, it's a different crowd and you get people flashing camera lights instead of singing a song.

Also, trying to get a poznan going in the group stage isn't right, it's not something to bring out every game anymore, keep it reserved for moments like the derby day thumping and it keeps its appeal. It died out first time because of overkill, I'm all for a revival there's nothing quite like a full stadium poznan but only when it's warranted.

Fair play to their fans. Brought good numbers expecting to be spanked and at least there was some tune variation to their songs and not just monotonous drum beat at the same tempo for 90 minutes. Their drummer could actually play the thing compared to that thundering banging heard from dortmund which I can still hear now.
