Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

Think the singers should move to the back of SS3 so the sound from the chants floods the stadium in the same way it did for forest.

That way it would be so much easier for the rest of the stadium to get involved in the songs. We've seen this a few times last season most notably vs Rags and vs Real Madrid, when SS3 was absolutely rocking.

The problem with SS1 being the main singing section is that the noise sort of gets lost and certainly isn't projected around the ground.

Let's get Safe Standing in SS3
sorry if you havent seen the replies to the idea, been on here as a suggestion for 3 or so years now. Appreciate any ideas & suggestions.

it cant happen and will never happen, as well as that there are so many other things to be taken into consideration for displays / access etc that SS1 is by far the best place.

also a big issue is that the whole of the south stand 3 tier design is about as awkward as can be for displays and singing

the only way we will create the sort of standing / singing we want is by the north stand development

for now fan participation is what we need.

For those of you who love atmospheres, the video shows this weekends Milan derby between AC Milan and Inter Milan. I won’t post the final score. (Ogden did an Etihad match video. Can’t remember which one it was)

A few things to take from a great video. Well worth watching.

Both sets of fans getting to their seats long before the game starts and creating an atmosphere pre-kick off.

Both sets fo fans creating great display/banners/flags at their ends. The AC Milan one in particular.

The whole stadium singing and getting behind Milan.

Milan fans staying behind (en-masse) after the final whistle and joining in with the team to celebrate the derby win over Inter.

Would be difficult now SSL3 is settled with supporters, but an expanded North Stand should definitely have the singers up at the top.

Both Inter and Milan have their singers up high behind the goals.

A large single tier stand or, failing that, a large 2nd tier stand if the NS development goes ahead, complete with safe standing and favourable pricing to enable those singers in SS3 to also be tempted to relocate would definitely be a game changer in terms of atmosphere. And yes, get the main singers further back and please no low overhang as that often sees chants in SS1 not travel anywhere - not even down to the front of the same stand sometimes despite the fact we're singing as loud as we possibly fucking can!

A large second tier with safe standing would be ideal. It would mean not having to move anyone in the family stand, but having a proper home end still.

Is this idea being actively suggested to the club? I feel like unless the fans push this idea we will end up with a carbon copy of the south stand - ie three split tiers, which wouldn’t help at all

What about a staggeed 2nd tier?

Keep NSL1 as it. Build a new and larger NSL2 with the front rows holding 3000-5000 singers as a new singing section. Above them, higher up, seperated by a 8ft(?) high wall is the rest of the new NSL2 tier. We would end up with a something similar to what AC Milan and Inter Milan have at the San Siro. Add a lower curved roof that amplifys the sound outwards. As the singers are at the front and higher up on NSL2, the chants and atmosphere would carry across the ground, and the rest of NSL2 slightly above the singing section would join in singing, as would NSL1 below.(the kids) And the away fans in the SS wou hear and see it all. :-)

Banners and flags could be hung fron the front of NSL2, and flags could be waved without obstructing the view of people in the higher section of NSL2.

For this to happen the club would have to make the NSL2 new singing section a priority over more expensive seats. And the row of LCD/LED advertising boards that are currently on the front of the NSL2 would have to go.

I think such a singing section would be the first of it's kind in England and in the PL?

AC Milan. Curva South.

Indeed. It’s all about the roof, get the singers up high under the roof and the Etihad will be one of the best atmospheres in the country.

A quick solution that might help with that is making the back 6 rows of south stand level 3 safe standing. Could encourage people to stand and sing a bit more. Doesn’t take many to get a block singing

It does seem to be better this season. I was over for the Bournemouth game, and the general atmosphere was great. The reception Bernie got when he came on was brilliant. Even the midweek game against Forest, where you'd imagine it would be fairly docile, came across well on the telly.

This needs a double like. The match which preceded it was sensational with Hibs getting a late winner against Rangers, then a huge pitch invasion. When I lived up there I used to watch Hearts and Hibs all the time. They both have brilliant away supports. I love this and agree it can't be bettered by any fanbase.
I was at that match. Remember that both teams were in their second season in the Scottish Championship for that match. Rangers were wound up and their replacement team had to work their way through the divisions. Hibs had been relegated. Both teams failed to win promotion to the Premiership the year before.

Hibs struggled throughout the Cup run requiring replays to get past Hearts (2-0 down with 10 minutes to play in the first match) and Inverness and needing penalties to beat Dundee United. Rangers beat Celtic on penalties in the other Semi-Final.

It was the possibly the first Scottish Cup between teams outwith the top Division. It was settled 3-2 after Hibs scored twice in the last 10 minutes.
