Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

It’s good to see we aren’t the only club that uses the PA system to completely stifle the atmosphere.

Newcastle have just ruined the best pre-match atmosphere they’d have had in the last decade to play that shite saxophone music!

Taken the sting out of what looked like a brilliant crowd.

They love they track up there.

jesus i thought i was the only nutter that did this !

wembley 1981 i took a big blue and white flag and full bag of ripped up paper to throw, quite good when the players came out, it was a sea of blue flags & scarves, matched anything the Argies do. Then the german fans copied and we died down in england.

We need this type of following again. The culture has changed, we try to come out with reasons or blame something for why the atmosphere is dull, but if you put 5,000 of that type of cultured fan from Wembley 1981 in the lower SS Vs Arsenal we would have out sung the whole of the stadium.

As we keep saying everyone, the north stand move is out last chance.. No matter what hotels & casinos go in the new stand, if 6,000 mad blues move in and make it our end it will be a fortress.
Christ I did this as well! I thought I must be the only one too ! Ha ha. I would draw flags and people. Just loads of stick men with arms up with a player on the pitch shooting into the top corner ! Those were the days before the gadgets.

I did the crowd as lots of circles to show their heads and then at the front of that group I’d draw little stick bodies. In the seats I did the heads in a line but that never looked very good to be honest.

I did the heads as loads of circles too when I wanted a full crowd scene! When it was a sparse crowd, it was people behind the terrace barriers and flags on the fences at the front!! Wish I could find one but think my mum/dad threw all my stuff away when I left!

I could honestly still draw one now with a ruler and a pen.

I've got loads of photos from Wembley 1981. I was 11.

I can still reel off what I worse even now. Sky blue City/unbro tracksuit bottoms. The red and black replica shirt. A blue, white, red and black flat cap, a wool scarf round my neck and a silk scarf around my wrist. I made a banner which my unclues and grandad decided should say "Our Word is Our Bond" which I still cringe about a little bit.

From the age of about 13 I never wore another piece of merchandise or club colours again but I certainly went for it back then.

I was 15yr old !

semi final at villa park to, what an atmosphere. Dreaming of a blue wembley

We've all seen European ultras walking to the stadium. It can be quite an impressive sight. Unfortunately, the club is trying to spin too many plates. They want a better atmosphere, but they also want to appeal to kids/families (for the record when I was a kid I'd have still hated this) and they end up with utter cringefest material like this 'organised walk to the ground'.

We need to change the mentality of the 90% of fans who can't be arsed contributing to the atmosphere. The Etihad is too friendly and nice. There should be a bit of an edge about going to a game. Football is intrinsically tribal and we should want to be a noisy, intimidating venue for any opposing fans/players. That doesn't mean we should all dress up as green street idiots, but come on, this is embarrassing. Imagine these lot trying to walk down the street outside Maine Road?

The club tries to control the atmosphere too much, which sets a certain psychology around the stadium (lazy, apathetic, reactive approach to building atmosphere).

- Light shows
- City Square 'entertainment'
- West Reception 'entertainment' as players arrive
- Bands/DJs in the stadium
- Noisy, chart music played at a deafening volume over the PA system
- LED flags on advertisement boards

It's all too much! Cut out all the cheese, literally replace all the above with nothing, and fans will start to build an atmosphere themselves. It might take a while but it will happen. At both Leeds away and United away, there was no 'pre-match entertainment', no music on in the stadium, and so on. It creates an environment where fans CAN build an atmosphere rather than having a cheesy one shoved down our throats and destroying any potential do it organically!

nothing to do with the club that, one of them was interview recently by Ian Cheeseman

Haven’t they played the theme from the movie Local Hero, for years though ?
