Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

“We do, we love you City, we do, we love you City we do, oh City we love you!”

Wait a minute, the players can‘t hear us because…. (click on the link for the video and you’ll find out why)

Yeah, it was great! :-/

I used to spend hours with a pen and paper drawing football stadiums and filling them with fans. There was always either singing going on in my pictures, signified by pointing hands, or a goal had been scored. I didn’t even draw the players, just the stands.
jesus i thought i was the only nutter that did this !

wembley 1981 i took a big blue and white flag and full bag of ripped up paper to throw, quite good when the players came out, it was a sea of blue flags & scarves, matched anything the Argies do. Then the german fans copied and we died down in england.

We need this type of following again. The culture has changed, we try to come out with reasons or blame something for why the atmosphere is dull, but if you put 5,000 of that type of cultured fan from Wembley 1981 in the lower SS Vs Arsenal we would have out sung the whole of the stadium.

As we keep saying everyone, the north stand move is out last chance.. No matter what hotels & casinos go in the new stand, if 6,000 mad blues move in and make it our end it will be a fortress.

Good post. Club have got to get on to this properly. It’s not just a massive chance, it’s arguably our last chance at this stadium.

The only other thing we can do if they just make the North Stand like the South Stand have have corporate sections and three tiers, is to make the whole of ESL1 our new Kippax standing and singing area.
Deep down that’s what I’ve always wanted. I sit in ESL1, love the view, always wanted safe standing where I am, always wanted the vocal area to be where I am… none of this behind the goal shit! But if they do get the North Stand right, I will move there.

it would actually work this, but doubt it will happen.

lower tier east stand, full safestanding. You would end up with most the singers where kippax corner now is to give the away fans stick. Also you would get fans moving about depending on which way city where kicking. Also for displays and flags it would be much easier.

I've got loads of photos from Wembley 1981. I was 11.

I can still reel off what I worse even now. Sky blue City/unbro tracksuit bottoms. The red and black replica shirt. A blue, white, red and black flat cap, a wool scarf round my neck and a silk scarf around my wrist. I made a banner which my unclues and grandad decided should say "Our Word is Our Bond" which I still cringe about a little bit.

From the age of about 13 I never wore another piece of merchandise or club colours again but I certainly went for it back then.

Tiny blue pin badge...still now

excellent comparison JRB.

if only we could get those same fans in the same end with same mentality during a game... not just best concourse fans in the league !
Mobile phones don't help....should be taken off you as you walk in and the mobile tickets binned. and . and and and

The drum haters would be driven mad at Boca Juniors. Lol! :-)

The difference being there are 100s of things going on in the crowd at Boca - not just the drums.

I’ve been to several games in Buenos Aires - at Boca, River Plate and Racing and you never know what’s gonna happen next. You hardly notice drums as every single person in the crowd is invested in the atmosphere. Night games are incredible.

A drum in English football at a quiet stadium is shit. You end up like Bolton when they were in the Premier League where its silence interrupted by clown with a drum.
