The third paragraph from the end (and this is the only source I have read so unsure) seems to suggest ADUG THROUGH Manchester City have invested. Therefore I can only summised (based upon one report) that the profits go back through MCFC
Any income stream must be football related I think to count for FFP.
Not necessarily. Commercial revenue can be recognised for non-football activities that are carried on at or in close proximity to the ground or training complex.
In that case I bow to your superior knowledge PB. Any idea what the powers that be consider to be "in close proximity"?

Its amazing what these joint ventures are chucking up.

As we all know there is plenty of brownfield land in Manchester that could be redeveloped if only someone with deep pockets and a vision would get involved.

It makes you think what the UK government should have done with North Sea oil revenues - a one off mega windfall that we largely squandered on unemployment and welfare benefits I.e. We used a one off benefit to underwrite a short term government spending shortfall. The Arabs in contrast and on a much bigger scale will own a huge part of the western world by the time their huge oil reserves dry up.

Which particular UK government are you talking about? The unemployment and welfare benefits systems payouts increased as a result of decades of neglect towards our industrial infrastructure, resulting in whole industries going belly up. What would you have done for those affected?

Marty Edelman: another City employee quietly revolutionising the club and city, rather than 'vuvuzela'ing' off from the rooftop. I think he was employed by the club pre ADUG, so I guess shows how far (and in what direction) the club and MCC were hoping to take.

This story is gathering pace now (Giddy Osbourne has already chipped in). Without digging too far, I'm not sure whether this project/s include/s the 'postponed' Holt Town?
Although I'm looking forward to hearing about the Collar Site/Leisure proposals, the Campus Academy and community projects are not doing the image of the club any harm at all [/understatment].
That's the way to do investment folks...

Martin Edelman is not another City employee, he's a Non-Executive Director appointed to the board post the take-over

Martin Edelman,

Martin Edelman was appointed to the Board on 23 September 2008. He was a Director of Cendant Corporation from 1997-2006 and was a Director of HFS from November 1993 until December 1997. He has been Of Counsel to Paul Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP, a New York City law firm, since June 2000 and currently serves as Director of the Avis Budget Group.

Martin Edelman specializes in international real estate transactions involving large, complex negotiations, acquisitions, dispositions and financing. He has broad international experience in all asset classes, having done extensive work in Europe, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, Japan, China and the Middle East. Mr. Edelman is a director of Avis/Budget Corp., Capital Trust, and Ashford Hospitality Trust. He is a senior advisor to Mubadala, the strategic investment vehicle of the government of Abu Dhabi, and a member of the board of Aldar Property Group. Mr. Edelman was one of the original lawyers responsible for bringing the Intrepid to New York and continues to serve on the Intrepid Board as Vice-Chairman and on the Boards of Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Fisher House Foundation and Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Disease Research Foundation. He is a founder of the Jackie Robinson Foundation and continues as an active board member.

There is nothing to indicate that the housing scheme is linked to MCFC or will be incorporated via FFP etc.

The wider questions we should be asking is what other partnerships/land swaps/joint ventures are open to ADUG and MCFC via MCC.

There seems to be no limits to what can and probably will happen now.

Lets not forget that this latest scheme was agreed and concluded whilst the CFA was being developed and the stadium expansion was taken from the drawing board and consultation process to diggers on site.

I wonder what next.....

This is a total guess on my part but to truly transform the balance between east and west Manchester then the East needs a world class shopping destination to blow the Traffic Centre out of the water and re define the commercial profile of the city.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

there was talk yesterday from some political bloke about wanted a northern money powerhouse,he mentioned a big link up between Manchester and leeds to rival London, maybe adug have seen the potential of this and are investing in housing knowing that a price boom is on its way.

(omg ive just found a 27 pack of penguins ,mmm)

Manchester is already a pretty decent shopping destination and it would be frankly pointless trying to replicate what is going on in Trafford.

The leisure side of things has always been the intention for the collar site and i'm pretty sure that remains the case.

But there's much more to the plans than the collar site.

I guess over time MCFC could become synonymous with ADUG as a Manchester investment vehicle (today's announcement seems to confirm this) - re investing it's huge profits in a range of schemes and projects to maximize its influence in the community and off setting the tax on its huge profits! I.e. Profits won't just be used to buy players or support football related infrastructure they will be targeted at a really broad investment portfolio to perpetuate a long term strategy.
This seems that ADUG, rather than City Football Group, is involved in this via a joint venture with the council. So I'd say it's unlikely that any revenue will find its way onto City's books.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

I'm sure the owners are already drawing up plans for all sorts of investments very similar to way the Saudi Bin Laden family invested for many years in USA with George Bush Senior

I wonder whether they would want to combine the Housing Project with the MCFC Project though because start up costs are bound to be extremely high with break even way down the line.
I am thinking that it would be yet another way to infringe FFP.

The way how ADUG are continuing to finance the regeneration of the area around the Stadium (and probably beyond) may encourage certain Councils and/or Construction Companies to consider a sponsorship deal ?

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Whether its City related or not. Whether any revenues it generates count towards FFP are pretty much irrelevant. The fact is ADUG will have a say in the design and type of housing that is built in the area. From their perspective that has to be a good thing as its likely they will want good quality housing schemes in place. That suggests an extension of what's going on at New Islington currently. Also it could possibly generate additional housing that might accommodate any need to move people from the existing housing around the Stadium freeing up more development land for an extended Campus and a bigger leisure hub at Beswick/Grey Mare Lane. This will also probably act as a magnet to draw the City Centre towards the Campus and all the investment that goes with that. A fantastic opportunity for Manchester as a whole. Hope I get to see all of it as it sounds as though its going to be truly eye catching.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

I've been told time and again that the scale of the investment was bigger than I could imagine.

I suppose this latest development proves that point rather well.
