Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Is the original mast not integral to holding the old roof in place ? Looking at the size of the concrete base when the new roof is attached will this not have to be be attached to the new supports as it appears to be one of the main foundation bases ? As already posted it looks a permanent fixture in the construction sequence video Is any construction engineer be able to shed any light on this.

To any structural engineers out there:

picture 76, the one that shows the restraint arm that holds the tensioned cable perturbing through the new steelwork. surely this could have been re-positioned so it didn't pass through the glazing??

Looks like it is to be replaced with new masts - note the angled gusset plates on the columns either side, the size of the bracing members looks like it's being geared up to resist the axial thrust due to the catenary

The renders show them in their original positions passing through the glazing though :-/

Just watched the video for the first time and I stand corrected, the masts are to remain. The gusset plates are to receive high tensile tie bars as part of a new truss supporting the new roof springing from the top of the columns. All very impressive.

jrb is a fucking legend, where are we upto on that video work wise,(cant seem to find the video of the works being carried out)

Aye - cheers for taking the time to snap and post JRB.
I love the fact the stadium is now closer to the road and feels more integrated in the city rather than off piste. The academy is starting to look better than the expensive CGI, which is rare in building developments.

That mast did look a little odd poking through the stadium (like vector graphic gone awry in computer game) - will it be entering/exiting through glass? If so, will a giant grommet be used to protect the internal section of the stadium from the elements?!

Can't quite see the detail in the vid...

Any idea why they weren't repositioned so they didn't pass through the glazing. Does seem like a very peculiar design feature and a detail that surely will be difficult to keep water tight.

I agree with you about jrb!

The construction video lasts for 2 minutes but the actual construction runs from about 25 seconds in to about 1 minute 30 seconds.
Currently we are at the 50 second mark.

I'm sure they've considered it and have a solution.

If they don't go thru the glazing then they'd be tied in to other steelwork and therefore lateral loads that they weren't designed for...?

Personally I think it'll be one of the best design features of the new stands.

Think of them mirroring our "trajectory" as a club!
