Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Just out of interest, does anyone on here know how such contracts/jobs are calculated by the construction company. What methods do they use to come up with a contracting winning figure.

Thanks.

Agreed that the MUEN should have got some inside photos of the bedrooms and medical facilities etc etc. Even if they aren't finished but to give us an idea of what the thing might look like when it is.
This is Yaya's apparently.

Wasn't it down to contamination of the ground and the hidden mineshafts etc etc. Might be wrong.

The site was cleared by a specialist remediation company before hand over to BAM so unless something was found then I doubt this would be the case

spent 5 years at the Aniline, the place was an ecological nightmare, not just down to the products used, which were poweful acids and alkalis, toxic gases and highly poisonous powders, there was a ''dont give a shit'' attitude from top to bottom. There were contractors permanently on site patching up roads, filling in holes caused by pipes leaking. One leak of oleum sent a gas cloud right across Manchester. Given all that, I am amazed at the progress so far, but i do wonder what happened to all the stuff that was excavated.

The majority was treated, put back in the ground, tested and covered with a 2 metre cap of clay, the liquids that were found were taken off site by a specialist contractor.

The company who did the remediation work were behind schedule due to the weather so in turn handed over to BAM 2/3 months late.

In that case BAM can't be blamed unless the delay is more than the 2/3 months

Exactly, plus I imagine that BAM would have weather clauses in the contract.

much appreciated, our fishing club contacted Macalpines regarding dredging a lake, they said the snag was finding somewhere to accept the spoil, if we found somewhere they would do it. we never did though, the stock response was to blame EU reg's regarding landfill.

Guessing.

Think Bam may have underestimated the size and scale of the project, and put in a tender that may have been undervalued
(in hindsight ) just to win the contract?

It must have been an absolute minefield, with numerous things cropping up on a daily basis. Did anyone else think this project would be delivered on time? I certainly didn't.

Saying that BAM may pull out all he stops and deliver it on time. If they do, fair play to them.

I hope BAM did get shafted, they've done it to plenty in the past. Still owe me 90k twats.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

A lot of principal contractors (like BAM) often get the blame when projects like this go tits up but is just as likely that one of the sub contractors have caused the delay. I deal with this sort of situation every week and it is a total pain in the arse as everyone blames everyone else!

As a side note Cheetham Hill nearly cost me my bloody job last year because of crap work and under scheduling down to them under pricing when the tender was put out.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

The stadium expansion contract was won by the same company that built the stadium wasn't it? Makes sense.

Lol, there's a song in there somewhere...

"I am the Man with the invisible cam(era), I'm not really here!"

Please picture the scene.

A grown up Man(loon), running around East Manchester, with a camera in one hand, and a six foot ladder in the other arm. :-) It's safe to say I nearly caused an accident on Alan Turin Way. :-?

The leisure centre and car park across the road.

Glass is now going in.
